Greg Olsen’s son TJ gives an update from his hospital bed after undergoing a heart transplant while thanking fans for the support.

Former NFL tight end Greg Olsen and his wife Kara Dooley have struggled with their eight-year-old son TJ’s heart condition that was progressively killing him. The defect is called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and has required TJ to already undergo three open-heart surgeries by the time he was three years old for the issue.

His condition took a turn for the worse, and TJ was hospitalized. The boy’s modified heart was no longer doing the job, and only a heart transplant would save him. Greg Olsen was praying for a miracle when one came his way.

Greg Olsen’s Miracle

On June 4, Greg Olsen took to social media to share the fantastic news. His son had received a donor match and would be receiving a heart transplant.

Who is cutting onions?

Olsen continues, asking fans to please keep his son and his medical team at Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, in their thoughts and prayers.

“TJ has a long road ahead of him, but today is a huge step forward,” writes the emotional father. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the outpouring of support through this entire journey.”

After the procedure, Greg made a statement sending their unwavering love to the donor family for their gift of life.

“Their selflessness during a tragic time gave our boy a chance at life. We don’t know who they are, but we will forever be grateful for every day we get to have with TJ.”

TJ is On the Road to Recovery!

We are thrilled to announce that TJ’s surgery was a success. Greg Olsen posted a video of his brave son this morning from his hospital bed after undergoing the strenuous surgery.

“Hi everybody, thank you for thinking of me,” says TJ Olsen. “Thank you for praying with me. Congrats, all of you have gotten a win! We love you guys! Bye!”

No. No, I promise I’ve got dust in my eye. These aren’t tears.

Greg noted that TJ’s doctors were “very happy” with the outcome of the surgery. The 36-year-old father of three also explained that TJ would “be sedated for a few days, but his road to recovery has begun.”

Congratulations to the whole Olsen family, and your Outsider family is continuously thinking of you during your recovery. Also, we would like to thank the donor family as well for their invaluable gift. You make this world a better place.
