Tim Tebow said his former coach Urban Meyer understands he made a mistake and wants to make amends after a video surfaced that could upend his NFL career. Meyer told the former Heisman Trophy winner that this was one of the hardest times in his life, Tebow said.

The video showed Urban Meyer at a bar in Ohio hours after the Jaguars’ fourth straight loss last week. He appeared in several photos people uploaded that night, but the most damaging image was a video of an unidentified young woman as she danced against the married grandfather. As he partied, his wife posted photos as she was taking care of their two grandchildren. Reports said his lapse in judgment has potentially damaged his relationship with the Jaguars organization and his players beyond repair.

Tim Tebow told ESPN’s First Take that Urban Meyer understands he made a mistake. The former NFL quarterback told the hosts that he wanted his former coach “to apologize, to admit it, to learn from it, and to never, never repeat it.”

Urban Meyer said he apologized to the team for his actions and said he’d never do them again. Though, he doesn’t plan on resigning as head coach.

“This is a very disappointing, frustrating, and honestly heartbreaking situation,” Tebow continued. “When I first saw and heard what was happening, my heart was hurting for (Meyer’s wife) Miss Shelley… Coach shared with me that it was one of the hardest times of his life. And he apologized, but he didn’t need to apologize to me.

“I know this weighs so heavy on his heart and he is hurting. I do think for some of the guys he will have to earn back their trust and respect. And I think he really wants to do that.”

Jaguars owner Shad Khan said Meyer was remorseful when they spoke. However, Khan said his coach’s actions were “inexcusable.”

“I have addressed this matter with Urban,” Khan’s statement began. “Specifics of our conversation will be held in confidence. What I will say is his conduct last weekend was inexcusable.”

Mom: Woman Dancing on Urban Meyer Has Had Her Life Ruined

The mother of the 24-year-old now-infamous video said she worries about her daughter’s safety and mental health since the video went viral.

“(She) can’t even go anywhere,” the mother told USA TODAY Sports. “It’s ruining her life is what it’s doing. I’m worried for her emotional status right now.”

The newspaper didn’t identify the woman or her mother.

The marketing company where the woman works opened an internal investigation into the incident. Though, the company told USA Today that they wouldn’t comment on her future employment status. The company added that the woman has not caused problems before.

“I just pray that (the company) doesn’t fire my daughter because she needs this job,” her mother said. “She just bought a house.”
