Indianapolis Colts Owner Says ‘Door’s Closed’ on Andrew Luck’s Rumored Return from Retirement

You won’t be seeing former quarterback Andrew Luck lacing up his cleats anytime soon, or at least that’s what Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay says.

In an interview with NFL.com, Jim Irsay says he believes Luck will not be coming out of retirement.

“You know, I don’t think so. I really don’t,” states Irsay. “I think that door’s closed.

Indianapolis Colts Tally Andrew Luck’s Injuries

Just days before the start of the 2019 season, Andrew Luck shocked football fans everywhere with the announcement of his retirement.

Luck suffered numerous injuries, including a sprained shoulder, lacerated kidney, a partially torn abdominal muscle in 2015, and torn cartilage in his rib, in 2016, along with a concussion. At the beginning of 2017, the quarterback underwent shoulder surgery for his labrum that eventually put him out for the whole season.

Although he was healthy in 2018, he suffered a calf strain in 2019 that might have been the nail in the coffin.

In addition, the 31-year-old became the father of a baby girl named Lucy Luck on November 12 of 2019. It is Luck and his wife, Nicole’s first child.

“I love Andrew, I wish him well,” Irsay said. “He’s raising his daughter, Lucy, and I just hope for him to have an incredible life and that sort of thing. But I don’t see it coming back around.”

However, fans said his decision to retire was rash and hoped that the first overall pick of the 2012 draft would eventually return to the field.

As the Indianapolis Colts’ go-to starter, he played 86 games and threw for 23,671 yards and 171 passing touchdowns. He also had an 89.5 percent passer rating in 2019 when he retired.

The Colts’ current quarterback, Philip Rivers, has led the team to a record of 6 and 3 this season so far. They take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday for a matchup with playoff implications. The Raiders are currently sitting at 7 and 5 for the season.
