Following Tiger Woods’ serious car accident early this morning, tons of celebrities and athletes have poured in their thoughts and prayers to social media. Even his ex-girlfriend, Lindsey Vonn, shared love and support for the 15-time Major champion.
The PGA legend entered surgery earlier today for two non-life-threatening injuries on both of his legs. In response to the crash and the surgeries, former PGA great Jack Nicklaus offered a heartfelt message to Tiger Woods on Twitter.
“Barbara and I just heard about Tiger’s accident,” Jack Nicklaus wrote in his Twitter post. “Like everyone else, we are deeply concerned. We want to offer him our heartfelt support and prayers at this difficult time. Please join us in wishing Tiger Woods a successful surgery and all the best for a full recovery.”
Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus are both considered the two greatest golfers in the history of the game. In fact, Jack Nicklaus is the only golfer with more Major PGA Tournament victories than Tiger.
Nicklaus has 18 Major victories while Tiger has 15. The two even competed against one another in 22 different Major tournaments between 1995 and 2005. Nicklaus beat Tiger on five of those twenty-two occasions. Four of those times came when Tiger still played as an amateur.
Before today’s serious car crash, Tiger had his sights set on getting that number 16 victory at the Masters in April. He underwent surgery on his back just a month ago but planned on returning for the major tournament. While he likely would not have won the tournament, you can never count Tiger Woods out at the Masters.
Details on the Tiger Woods Crash
Tiger Woods got into a serious car accident early this morning in which his car rolled over several times. Emergency medical professionals responded to the crash around 7:12 in the morning. The crash happened in Ranchos Palos Verdes at Hawthorne Blvd close to Blackhorse Rd.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they called for back up as they could not remove Tiger Woods from the car. However, contrary to earlier reports, the “jaws of life” emergency tool did not play a role in his removal. When emergency rescue workers finally removed the 15-time major champion from the car, they immediately rushed him to the hospital.
Tiger Woods immediately went into surgery — for the seventh time in the past six years. The surgery operated on injuries he sustained in both of his legs. However, a recent update disclosed that these injuries, thankfully, were not life-threatening.
Given the condition of his back and the injuries to his legs, we do not expect to see Tiger return for the 2019 Masters. In fact, if he ever plays again, it will be a blessing. We join all the stars and athletes, including Jack Nicklaus, in wishing Tiger Woods a speedy recovery, and we hope to see him return to the PGA Tour someday.
