YouTube star Jake Paul does not have any interest in fighting UFC champ Amanda Nunes, saying the fight would be “a complete waste of time.”

TMZ sports dove into the backstory of the entire situation. Not long ago, Paul called out UFC President Dana White to let him fight former UFC champion, Conor McGregor. White responded by saying there’s no chance that fight materializes. He also said he would think about allowing Nunes to “knock his ass out.”

Nunes responded to White by saying she’s ready to fight whenever. Paul, however, doesn’t seem to fond of the idea.

“Nah, I wouldn’t fight her,” Paul said in an interview with TMZ Sports. “Waste of time. No one knows who she is … There’s not a lot of hype there. Plus, there’s no history.”

Paul says that no one knows Nunes, despite her having more than a million followers on Instagram and several major endorsement deals.

There’s no doubt that in the past, the idea of a YouTube star fighting against professional fighters would be strange. With that said, Paul did impress back in November when he knocked out former NBA player Nate Robinson. That fight was an exhibition boxing match held at Staples Center in Los Angeles. It was an undercard matchup prior to the showdown between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr.

Fighting Nunes, however, would be quite a different story than fighting the former NBA player. Nunes is currently the UFC’s reigning women’s featherweight and bantamweight champion and perhaps one of the best fighters in UFC history. She has a 20-4-0 record in MMA. She hasn’t lost since September of 2014 to Cat Zingano.

In contrast, Paul only has two professional fights under his belt and they were both against inexperienced opponents.

Devin Haney Sounds Off on Jake Paul

While Paul says he does not want to fight Nunes for the reasons listed above, boxing star Devin Haney also spoke against the idea recently saying, “men should fight men.”

“No, it’s not fair. I don’t think he should fight a girl,” Haney told TMZ. “Girls should fight girls. Guys should fight guys. I think he’s still a man. He gotta fight a man.”

The World Boxing Council Lightweight champ did praise Jake Paul’s training, though. Haney knows about his work ethic because he says he’s actually trained with the social media star. Haney says that although he knows Paul is taking the sport seriously, he’s just not yet ready for a fight between a man and a woman.

“That’s my boy, so I like that he’s doing good … I’ve been in the gym with him. He’s showing that he’s dedicated to the sport,” Haney said.
