Jerry West Being Sued by Man Who Claims He Helped Bring Kawhi Leonard to Clippers

This man wants Jerry West to pay up. Johnny Wilkes claims he played an instrumental role in getting Kawhi Leonard to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers. Now he wants financial compensation.

He’s currently suing the NBA legend to the tune of $2.5 million. That’s more money than most will ever see in their lives. But Wilkes feels it’s a small place for helping land Leonard to a new home. In the lawsuit, Wilkes said plotted with Jerry West on how to get Leonard to the Clippers.

Before joining the Clippers in 2019, Leonard played for a short period with the Toronto Raptors. He also played for San Antonio Spurs for eight years, starting in 2011. Since joining the NBA, Leonard has been All-Star talent and a valuable addition for West and the Clippers.

Jerry West Allegedly Asked for Help

According to TMZ, Wilkes said West approached him asking for help. In April 2019, Wilkes said he met West at Staples Center and told him that he had a connection to Kawhi. Allegedly, Wilkes is close with Kawhi and Kwhi’s uncle NBA great Dennis Robertson. Apparently close enough to sway the young athlete in the team’s direction.

At the time, Wilkes said he and West struck an agreement. West promised to pay a lump sum of $2.5 million if Wilkes could help him close the deal.

Wilkes said he played an influential role in connecting West with Robertson. For his part, Wilkes alleged Robertson received a California mansion and travel expense account. Wilkes and West allegedly also discussed a pitch plan tailored to Leonard’s interests.

“This information was vital,” Wilkes said in the lawsuit, “because it was the exact information Kawhi Leonard wanted to hear at the time in order to effectuate his signing with the Clippers.”

In a celebratory dinner after the deal, Wilkes claimed that West promised he would receive the money. But so far, the Clippers’ executive member has failed to pay up. Now Wilkes is suing him for the $2.5 million-plus damages. West isn’t the only one involved in a lawsuit. NBA legend Paul Pierce is being sued because of a marijuana growing operation.
