In a preview for his Daddy Issues podcast, Joe Buck says to listeners “if you want to know what really happened in Tampa – here you go”.
Joe Buck is in hot water over his controversial NFL commentary. Before we get into his – interesting – response, however, let’s take a look at the situation. In a previous report, Outsider.com’s Thad Mitchell summarizes the controversy:
“In the booth to commentate on Sunday’s matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Green Bay Packers, Aikman and Buck called into question the necessity of the roaring jets passing over the stadium. The two longtime broadcast partners were allegedly caught on a hot microphone expressing their displeasure in the display. Raymond James Stadium, Tampa Bay’s home field, is limiting fan attendance to 25 percent capacity.
“That is a lot of jet fuel just to do a little flyover,” Aikman says.
“That’s your hard-earned money and tax dollars at work,” Buck replies.
The conversation then took a political turn.
“That stuff ain’t happening with a Kamala-Biden ticket,” the former Dallas Cowboy quarterback said. “I’ll tell you that right now, partner.”
This is, in full, what all the fuss is about.
Joe Buck: “It Was Not a Hot Mic”
In a semi-response, Buck addresses the controversy on his Daddy Issues podcast. Gently prodded by friend and co-host Oliver Hudson, the sports host begins with irritation in his voice.
“Everyone’s texting me – did you see the Joe and Troy thing?” Hudson says to initiate the talk. He then jumps all in:
“Was it a hot mic?”
“No! It was not a hot mic,” Buck reacts. “It’s funny – it’s ridiculous, really…. There’s so many different aspects to this. And it would be laughable if it wasn’t so frustrating.”
The two share a bit more unrelated dialogue before Buck ends the clip with:
“First of all the only reason it happened was because I’m trying to drive more traffic to our podcast.”
