After holding off for years, NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana is now admitting that Tom Brady is the GOAT. For those somehow unfamiliar with the term, it stands for “Greatest of all Time.”

During and after his illustrious career, Montana was largely considered by many to be the greatest quarterback of all time. Playing a majority of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, and later the Kansas City Chiefs, he certainly has a case for the title. His list of achievements stack up against most any quarterback to play in the National Football League — except Brady.

During his career, Montana won four Super Bowls, went to eight Pro Bowls and won two NFL MVP awards. While those numbers put him in the NFL Hall of Fame, they pale in comparison to Brady’s accomplishments through his 20-year career. Brady has seven Super Bowl wins, 10 Super Bowl appearances, 14 Pro Bowl appearances and three NFL MVP awards.

Championship wins aside, the individual statistics also favor Brady by a large margin as well. Montana threw for a heavily respectable 40,551 yards in his 16-year career. Brady will most likely pass the 80,000 yards passing mark during the 2021 season.

Joe Montana Acknowledges Tom Brady’s Greatness

Appearing on a recent ESPN broadcast, the legendary Montana give Brady his dues, admitting he is the GOAT.

“Oh, I think Tom has taken his place on the top up there a long time ago,” the former 49er great says “So, he’s had a tremendous career, he’s fun to watch.”

Montana states he is well aware of the ongoing debate but says there is no question in his mind of who the best is.

“But if you look at what Tom’s been able to accomplish in his time that he’s played, I think it puts him definitely up there in the top of the list,” he says.

Perhaps what is most impressive about Brady is his longevity and consistency though he is long in the tooth. At 43-years-old, Brady is coming off one of his best seasons playing with a brand new team. He put up MVP-quality numbers in his first season as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer and the lead the team to a championship.

Joe Montana certainly knows a GOAT when he sees one, and the NFL great says it is Tom Brady.
