Retired NFL and Southern California football star Keyshawn Johnson has tragically lost his first born child -daughter Maia – he announced Monday.
“It is with incredible sadness that I have to share the news about the passing of my beautiful Daughter Maia. Maia, as my first born child, has been the joy of my, and her Mother Shikiri’s, life,” Johnson posts to Twitter Monday.
In a series of tweets, the ESPN analyst and sports legend offered fans and followers a glimpse into the love he holds for his daughter.
“She came into our lives just as we were both coming of age as adults and has been a constant beloved presence for both of us. We are heartbroken and devastated by her loss. Shikiri, Maia’s siblings, our family and me appreciate your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time,” he continues in his second tweet.
Football Icon Keyshawn Johnson’s Tragic Loss
The heartbreaking words come from a father who survives Maia along with three siblings: Keyshawn Jr, London, and Vance.
“We also all appreciate your support and respect for our privacy as we move forward. Thank you all, God Bless. Keyshawn Johnson, Sr.,” he concludes in a third tweet. No further details are given nor available on Maia’s untimely death.
Maia’s father, Keyshawn Johnson Sr., is a Los Angeles native. He played for the USC Trojans in 1994 and 1995.
The WR “was twice recognized as a consensus first-team All-America selection. He then went on to play in the NFL for the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys and the Carolina Panthers,” CBS News reports after Maia’s passing.
After his long and historic career on the field, Keyshawn Johnson would retire from the NFL in 2007. His football legacy continues, however, as he remains a beloved football analyst for ESPN.
Our sincerest condolences to the Johnson family during this unfathomable loss from everyone at Outsider. Rest in Peace, Maia.
