Las Vegas Raiders Owner Mark Davis Breaks Silence After Jon Gruden’s Resignation

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden is now former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, resigning from his position earlier this week.

Gruden, who coached the Las Vegas Raiders in the past three seasons, resigned after allegations of inappropriate language usage in past emails. He reportedly used homophobic, racist and misogynistic terms in these emails sent to NFL executives. In another email, he allegedly chided NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell over his stance regarding the drafting of Michael Sam, an openly gay football player. After more emails containing offensive language came to light, Jon Gruden resigned as the Las Vegas Raiders head coach. Gruden was working as a football analyst for ESPN in 2011 when the alleged emails were sent.

Team owner Mark Davis has been relatively quiet since the Gruden news came to light but recently broke his silence, speaking to an ESPN reporter.

“Just spoke with Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis,” the tweet from reporter Paul Gutierrez proclaims.

As you can probably tell from the Twitter post, Davis is still trying to process the event and figure out what is the best for his football team. He also seems a little perturbed at the league, telling the reporter that the NFL “has all the answers.”

“I have no comment. Ask the NFL. They have all the answers,” he says.

Las Vegas Raiders Will Press Forward With Interim Head Coach

Veteran special teams coach Rich Bisaccia will assume head coaching duties for the Las Vegas Raiders on an interim basis. Davis confirmed that personnel duties will be split between the interim coach and the team’s general manager, Mike Mayock.

“Also confirm that Mike Mayock remains GM and now has 51 percent control of roster decisions, with interim coach Rich Bisaccia at 49 percent,” the tweet says. “Was Gruden 51/Mayock 49 before.”

While Bisaccia will likely have control of the Las Vegas Raiders for the remainder of the 2021 season, Davis will likely be in the market for a new head coach once the offseason arrives. The Raiders are currently the only NFL team without a head coach.

Even with all the turmoil facing them, the season will continue for the Las Vegas Raiders. They currently own a 3-2 record and are competing for a spot in the AFC playoffs. The Raiders will take on the Denver Broncos this Sunday.
