Michael Strahan Buys New Football Equipment for His TSU Alma Mater

Even with all of his success on the gridiron, Michael Strahan, a National Football League Hall of Famer, still remembers where he came from.

From humble beginnings at a small college in Texas, Michael Strahan blossomed into a dominant force on the football field. Strahan attended Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, an all-African American college. He played defensive end for the TSU Tigers, honing his skills before moving on the do even greater things in the NFL.

Michael Strahan was a dominant defender, breaking a couple of school records that still stand. He played for TSU in the ’90s and holds the single-season sack record with 19. He is also the school’s all-time leader in sacks with 41.5 sacks over his career. Ever since leaving the school for the NFL, Strahan has been a huge supporter of the school’s football program. He’s donated numerous equipment items to the Tigers team, including his most recent — 100 brand new helmets. The team got to practice in their new gear this week as they prepare for their next game.

The 100 helmets donated by Michael Strahan are quite sharp and in much better shape than the previous helmets worn by the TSU Tigers. The Riddell brand helmets are a gray and maroon color and each player will have their number on their helmet. TSU head coach Clarence McKinney took to social media to personally think Michael Strahan for his support.

“Huge shoutout and thank you goes to Michael Strahan for taking care of his alma mater with a donation of new helmets to the football team,” the head coach says.

Michael Strahan Gives Back to Alma Mater’s Football Team

It is far from the first time that Michael Strahan has pitched in to help his alma mater and they are beyond grateful for his support. In 2019, Strahan donated new pads to the football team before the season got underway.

McKinney says Texas Southern University is extremely grateful to Michael Strahan for his efforts in supporting the Tigers.

“He’s been good to our program,” the coach says. “The players are excited about the donation. “We practiced in them on Monday and the players love them.”

Michael Strahan earned the Black College Defensive Player of the Year in 1992. He was also inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

The New York Giants made Strahan a second-round selection in 1992 and he played his entire career with the team. He would go on to become one of the most dominant defenders that NFL has ever seen. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2013.
