Mike Tyson Admits He Smoked Marijuana Before Fighting Roy Jones Jr.

Mike Tyson is sharing an update in regards to his exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr. that ended in a draw.

The 54-year old is confessing that he smoked marijuana right before his showcase fight at the Staples Center on Saturday night, according to USA Today.

“Absolutely, yes,” Tyson simply declared during his post-fight press conference.

Additionally, Tyson alluded to that he lit up again after the fight, right before he met with the media. The 8-round fight ended in a draw.

“Listen, I can’t stop smoking,” he said. “I smoked during fights. I just have to smoke, I’m sorry. I’m a smoker. I smoke every day. I never stopped smoking.”

Regulations Surrounding Mike Tyson’s Drug Use

Fighting in an exhibition rather than a professional fight apparently didn’t knock out the validity of Tyson’s fight against Jones. The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association tested the fighters for performance-enhancing drugs before the bout. However, marijuana reportedly was not on the list of banned substances.

Tyson’s admitted to using drugs before. The heavyweight champion said that he stopped using cocaine about two-and-a-half-years ago. However, marijuana continues to be something that he uses.

“It’s just who I am,’ Tyson confesses. “It has no effect on me from a negative standpoint. It’s just what I do and how I am and how I’m going to die. There’s no explanation. There’s no beginning, there’s no end.”

Some are wondering if Tyson was smoking marijuana before the fight to numb the pain. It had been 15 years since he stepped into the boxing ring to fight.

“No, it just numbs me. It doesn’t numb the pain. I’m here for a purpose,” the boxer said. “I’m not here for my ego. “

Tyson Talks Priorities

Tyson’s priorities have shifted from his previous year’s lifestyle. Before, the boxer admits that he was into buying expensive things and surrounding himself with women. Tyson almost makes it seem like he created this persona to live up to what people expected of the champion boxer.

“This is not who that is right now. That guy was just somebody that had to be, eventually, he was a platform to become me,” he states.

Now Tyson cares about his family, his pigeons, his clothes and, even his joints. The athlete’s even founded his own cannabis company, Tyson Ranch. Not only does he care about the things listed above, but Tyson’s also shifted his focus to caring about charity.

Mike Tyson earned $1 million dollars for his fight on Saturday night. He has already earmarked that money for charity.
