A fan reportedly threw a punch at boxing legend Mike Tyson following his exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr. on Saturday night.
TMZ Sports reports that the heavyweight boxer was on his way out of Staples Center in Los Angeles following his bout with Jones Jr. when a man in a crowd of fans tried to throw a punch at Tyson.
While Tyson was signing autographs, the unidentified man was yelling out at him asking why he wouldn’t fight him. According to reports, Tyson jokingly responded with the man and said that if they were to fight, it probably wouldn’t end well for him.
That’s when the fan apparently threw a punch. He also allegedly reached into his waistband for what Tyson’s team feared might be a weapon. Tyson’s security team, which evidently recognized the man from a previous event where he started trouble, stepped in immediately and took care of the situation.
The suspect took off after the near altercation. Police officers were called to the event about a possible battery involving Tyson around 11 p.m. PT, although when they responded to the scene, all parties had left already. No police report was filed.
Mike Tyson Match Ended in a Draw
The long-anticipated exhibition match between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. was declared a draw after eight rounds between the two boxing icons on Saturday at Staples Center.
There were a lot of opinions regarding the fight between the 54-year-old Tyson and 51-year-old Jones. Tyson was apparently happy with the outcome of the match. Jones, however, not so much.
“Tyson says he thinks he won the fight, but he’s good with a draw… ‘I entertained the crowd, the crowd was happy with it,'” the official MMA Fighting account tweeted. They added that Jones said, “I’m never satisfied with draws. I wear drawers, I don’t do draws,”#TysonJones.”
