Milwaukee Bucks Marred Celebration
The team had just wrapped up its 72-46 season, coming back from a 2-0 series deficit to beat the Phoenix Suns, 105-98. NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 50-point, 14-rebound performance was pivotal in the 4-2 series victory.
Antetokounmpo’s playing time in the series started in doubt after an injured knee before Game 1. He shocked teammates and fans alike with a 20-point, 17-rebound game, but the team lost 118 to 105.
After the first two games in Arizona, Antetokounmpo dragged the Bucks back from the brink with a 41-point home game. Milwaukee went on to win 120 to 100 behind a solid defensive showing.
By Game 4, the Bucks had the Suns on the run. Khris Middleton scored 40 points.
For the Suns, Chris Paul’s first NBA Finals trip ended in another disaster. During his 16-year pro basketball career, the journeyman became the first player to play on teams that blew 2-0 series leads. The point guard, a likely NBA Hall of Famer, is considered among the top players at his position currently.
Notably, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and other minority owners celebrated their first NBA title.
In the end, the Bucks wrapped up its first NBA title since 1971 when it defeated the now-defunct Baltimore Bullets in four games.
