NASCAR: Bubba Wallace Is ‘Workin’ on the Weekend, Like Usual’ in New Pic Behind Wheel of No. 23 Car

NASCAR racer Bubba Wallace took to his Twitter on Saturday (July 3rd) to reveal that he’s spending his holiday weekend by the wheel of the No. 23 car.

“Workin’ on the weekend, like usual,” Bubba Wallace reveals in his latest Twitter post, which shows him in No. 23 looking like he’s preparing for a race.

Bubba Wallace participated in the Road America Practice on Saturday, which is part of the NASCAR Cup Series. According to RacingNews, the event took place in Elhart Lake, WI, which reportedly hasn’t seen a Cup Series race in a few decades. The races took place on a 4.048-mile on Road America for a practice run. The duration of the practice run was 50 minutes. The professional racer finished in 18th place at 123.611. 

Bubba Wallace Talks Relationship With Michael Jordan 

Bubba Wallace is racing in No. 23 this weekend, which is the car from Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s NASCAR team, 23XI Racing. He served as the first driver in No. 23. 

During a recent interview with Popculture, the NASCAR racer discusses his relationship with Michael Jordan by stating he’s been a “phone call away or a text away.”

Wallace further reveals, “[He’s] always saying good luck or good race after, each and every race. It’s been cool to get those text messages.” He also beams that it’s still surreal to see the NBA legend sending him text messages. 

Also speaking about the team dynamics between him, Jordan, and Hamlin.

“We’re all competitive. Myself, Denny, and MJ. We want to win. We want to grow this team to outstanding heights. And it really starts with this year and getting everything underneath us as a solid foundation.”

Recently, Bubba completed his best finish so far in the 2021 season in fifth place at the second Pocono race, which took place at the end of June. 

Bubba Wallace Talks Virtual Racing vs Competing in Actual NASCAR Races

Also during the interview, Bubba Wallace discusses his experiences with virtual racing and how it compares to actual NASCAR races. He participated in the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series event, the Windy City 110.

Bubba Wallace states that he spent time in Chicago throughout his career but doesn’t remember any of the streets and how bumpy they actually until he did the virtual race.

“Getting a feel for [the roads] on the SIM here has been challenging,” Bubba admits. “If we do get it to where we actually come [to Chicago] in real life, it’ll be a heck of a show for the fans that definitely want to attend.”

In regards to McDonald’s being one of 23XI Racing’s major sponsors, Bubba goes on to note that the fast-food giant has stepped up in a huge way for him in 2021 by being the founding partner for the race team. And for him signing on as a mentor for the Black and Positively Golden Membership.
