NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin once told TMZ who the one celebrity is that he would want to drive around if he were an Uber driver.

That’s right — the former Daytona 500 winner has once thought about what life would be like if he were an Uber driver instead of a professional stock car racer. And Hamlin says that if there was one celebrity that he wants to take from point A to point B, that one person would be none other than Denzel Washington.

Back in 2016, Hamlin was stopped by media members in New York City who had a few questions for the NASCAR driver. And one of those questions included what celebrity the NASCAR star would want to drive around. Fresh off of his Daytona 500 win, Hamlin knew right away that his answer was Denzel Washington.

“Denzel Washington,” Hamlin said without question. “That guy is a badass.”

NASCAR Star Once Had to ‘Turn In’ an Uber Driver

Known for his skills behind the race car, some people may find it a little ironic that Denny Hamlin still uses Uber to get around.

By now, we all know that Uber has blown up over the last several years. And while there are a number of factors that have made Uber so popular, one of its key perks is that it is just so convenient. So much so that even famous athletes and race car drivers like Denny Hamlin use the service. However, Hamlin says he rarely gets recognized.

“Most of the Uber drivers that I have ever had have no idea who Denny Hamlin is,” he says with a smile.

So according to the NASCAR star himself, he doesn’t tend to get noticed that much. But he is definitely paying attention to just how good his Uber driver is behind the wheel. In fact, the NASCAR star said that he even had to turn a driver in.

“I actually had to turn one Uber driver in because he was just awful,” Hamlin recalled. “He was driving like 30 miles per hour below the speed limit. And he was swerving all over the road. I felt bad because I like giving good ratings but that guy was terrible.”

By the sounds of it, the driver of the No. 11 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing is not messing around when it comes to his Uber experience.
