NASCAR: Here’s the 12 Drivers Remaining in the Cup Series Playoffs After Saturday’s Bristol Race

An exciting NASCAR Cup Series season is hitting the home stretch as the racing playoffs are now in full swing.

Heading into Saturday night’s NASCAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway, 16 drivers were still in playoff contention. When the dust settled in Bristol, Tennesse Saturday evening, there were only 12 remaining in the hun for the NASCAR Cup Series Championship. The exciting Saturday night race eliminated four drivers who now turn their attention to competition in the 2022 season.

Eliminated in the Bristol Motor Speedway race were drivers Tyler Reddick, Aric Almirola, Kurt Busch and Michael McDowell. Now, the final 12 standing drivers will head to Las Vegas for the NASCAR playoff race for the Southpoint 400. The race will take place on September 26 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in what should be another exciting racing showdown.

“12 drivers survived The Last Great Colosseum and will fight on in the NASCAR Playoffs,” the tweet from NASCAR proclaims.

The social media post shows the 12 drivers still in contention for this year’s Cup Series championship. The cup in the center of the photo is the object of their desire as it belongs to the best driver of the season. Still in contention are Kyle Larson, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, William Byron, Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Christopher Bell and Kevin Harvick. One of these 12 NASCAR drivers will finish the season as the Cup Series Champion. Fans can’t wait for the next race and to see who claims victory at the end of the season.

NASCAR Stars Prepare for Battle as the Playoffs Heat Up

At this moment, Every NASCAR driver is looking up at Kyle Larson, who is leading the standings with the most points. Larson came away with an impressive victory at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday.

He now stands alone at the top of the standings with 3,059 points. Not far behind him is Martin Truex Jr., who has accumulated 3,029 points at this juncture. Veteran racer Denny Hamlin is next and nipping at Truex Jr.’s heels with 3,024 points. Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch round out the top five with 3,024 points and 3,022 points, respectively. Still, it is an extremely tight race for the NASCAR championship and any of the 12 remaining drivers could emerge with a big win.

Larson’s victory at Bristol Motor Speedway is his sixth win in the 2021 season. He has been one of the best and most consistent performers during this NASCAR season. Being in first place also means Larson is carrying a huge target on his back as other racers look to get one up on the points leader.

The round of 12 is now off to sin city for the next playoff race. They will head to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the South Point 400 at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 26.
