It seems as though NASCAR drivers are enjoying their two-week Olympic break. Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick are enjoying it so much that they are calling for this break to become the norm.

With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics officially underway, NBC has decided to take a two-week break from covering the NASCAR Cup Series. In its place, they will be focusing their attention on the rest of the world and the Olympics.

NASCAR fans, of course, have their own opinions. We all want to watch racing 24-7, so it is disappointing to see a two-week break. But for the actual drivers themselves, it turns out that they are enjoying having a little vacation this time of year. And who can blame them?

Kevin Harvick Wants to Keep 2-Week Break

Kevin Harvick — often referred to as The Closer and Happy Harvick — competes full time in the NASCAR Cup Series. He is the driver of the No. 4 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing. And he is also one of the high-profile racers who want this two-week break to become the norm going forward.

“I’d rather have a summer break and not have all the breaks at the beginning of the year,” Harvick explained. “It’d take it off the front end because everybody’s fresh and energized.”

Harvick makes a solid point here. Not only will it allow the star drivers to have two weeks off in the summer, rather than at the very beginning of the year, it will also allow all of the guys in the shop and on the road to have a break as well. We sometimes forget just how many people are part of a NASCAR team.

“I think having this two-week break really allows these guys in the shop and on the road to be able to actually have two, for sure weeks off that they can plan around That’s something very important to the families of those individuals.”

“I think not having to stress out about what your car did in the last race or what it’s going to do in the next race for a couple of weeks is obviously nice,” he continued.

NASCAR Star Kyle Busch Speaks Out in Favor of 2-Week Olympic Break

As for Kyle Busch, you can add him to the list of drivers who like the new schedule as well.

“Having an off-week is good,” Busch agreed. “I think it’s about time for us, a good summer break anyways to be able to go out and do things in the summertime that typically you’d always have to wait for the wintertime. I can’t tell you how many winter vacations I’ve been on and places that I’ve gone in December, January versus actually being able to go somewhere far away in July.”
