NASCAR: Kyle Larson To Start at Rear of Field After Failing Pre-Race Inspections at Richmond

NASCAR champ Kyle Larson will be starting Saturday night’s race from the rear during the Federated Autoparts 400 race at the Richmond Raceway in Richmond Virginia. This news comes after reports that Kyle Larson’s number 5 Chevrolet Camaro failed more than once to pass the pre-race technical inspections.

There is no doubt that NASCAR star Kyle Larson is a favorite for the 2021 NASCAR for the season. Performance-wise, all signs are pointing to the Hendrick Motorsports driver racing to a 2021 title.

However, it’s the inspection parts of the pre-race qualifications that Kyle Larson just can’t seem to get past. This is the second time the NASCAR star has been pushed to the back of the line after the Number 5 Hendrick Motorsports Camaro was unable to clear the pre-race inspections.

NASCAR Announces Kyle Larson’s End Of the Line Starting Position

Due to the failed inspections, NASCAR officials have announced that Kyle Larson will be making his start in Saturday night’s Federated Auto parts 400 race at the end of the lineup.

Kyle Larson’s Chevrolet Camaro was unable to pass the inspections two times ahead of the start of the second race in the series’ first-round playoffs.

“NEWS: The No. 5 car of @KyleLarsonRacin will start at the rear of the field tonight at @RichmondRaceway, following multiple pre-race inspection failures,” noted the NASCAR Twitter page Saturday afternoon. Just hours before the race is set to begin.

Initially, Kyle Larson found himself and his number 5 Camaro leading in the track position. As he prepared for the Saturday night race.

NASCAR’s performance-based formula determines the starting lineup for each event without practice or qualifying. Larson was originally placed on the pole for the Richmond race. This means the driver would be in the starting position Saturday evening.

Larson scored this placement recently after driving to a runner-up finish at the Darlington Raceway. This finish set Larson at the top of the NASCAR Cup Series with the highest number of points. However, the inspection failures have tossed Larson to the back of the line. And, this is beginning to look like a trend for the NASCAR driver.

Failed Inspections Push NASCAR Star To the Back Of the Line More Than Once

A few weeks ago, Kyle Larson and his number 5 Camaro were pushed back from a front row start in another race; the NASCAR Cup Series Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway. This move was made after the Chevrolet Camaro failed to pass multiple pre-race inspections.

Despite his less-than-perfect starting position, Kyle Larson is having a pretty amazing racing season.

Not only has the NASCAR driver taken himself towards earning a spot in the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, but Larson hoping for a winning regular season as well.

Larson wasn’t the only one facing a push-back in the starting lines for the Saturday evening race. NASCAR added to the Saturday afternoon Twitter post. This time announcing that number 41, Cole Custer will be joining Kyle Larson in the starting position. The Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang has also failed pre-race inspections, NASCAR announced on Twitter.

“The No. 41 car of @ColeCuster will also start from the rear of the field tonight at @RichmondRaceway following multiple pre-race inspection failures,” noted the NASCAR Tweet.

Custer is currently ranked 28th in the NASCAR series. He is entering into the Richmond race with 421 points compared to Kyle Larson’s point total of 2106.
