NASCAR: What is the Race Weekend Forecast in Charlotte for Coca-Cola 600?

The NASCAR Cup Series is returning to Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina this weekend. As we gear up for another Memorial Day weekend full of races, weather could impact certain portions of the weekend. Therefore it could also impact the results of all three competitions.

Inclement weather can be a nuisance to both the drivers and fans attending the race. Fans have to huddle up in ponchos or miss out on the race entirely. In addition, drivers often have to start and stop because of multiple cautions and delays. Just when a driver thinks he’s in a groove, a stoppage can ruin any momentum they may have had. In a worst case scenario, the whole event can be canceled if officials deem the track conditions unsafe.

Hopefully that won’t be the case this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. But nonetheless, let’s check in on this weekend’s forecast for the Coca-Cola 600.

NASCAR Weekend Weather Forecast

Friday, May 28th – North Carolina Education Lottery 200

The Camping World Truck Series race kicks off in Charlotte on Friday night. The first big race of the NASCAR weekend is a 134-lap, 200-mile race that begins at 8:30 p.m EST. It’s a hot day in Charlotte, but things should cool down by race time.

The forecast shows a high of 93°, with the low around 69°. Additionally, the weather is supposed to be partly sunny with a 25% chance of rain.

VERDICT: Race fans should be mostly in the clear for tonight’s truck series.

Saturday, May 29th – Alsco Uniforms 300

The Xfinity Series race will take place on Saturday afternoon at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The second race of the weekend is a 200-lap, 300-mile competition, which starts at 1 p.m. EST tomorrow.

The weather will be significantly cooler during the day compared to Friday, which will be a welcomed relief for fans. With highs of 82° and lows of 55°, it would be a great racing forecast. However, it’s supposedly going to be cloudy tomorrow with possible thunderstorms in the area. In addition to the thunderstorms, there’s a 61% chance of rain on Saturday.

VERDICT: Of the three Charlotte races, Saturday is looking like it could be impacted the most by inclement weather. Fans will want to come prepared for the worst just to be safe.

Sunday, May 30th – Coca-Cola 600

The NASCAR Cup Series main event will take over Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday evening. The final race of the weekend is a monster 400-lap, 600-mile competition, which will air at 6 p.m. EST on Sunday.

Thankfully, the forecast seems to have saved its best day for the Coca-Cola 600. Temperatures will continue to fall with highs of 76° and lows of 54°. With a mostly sunny forecast and only a 2% chance of rain, NASCAR fans should be able to enjoy the entire day of racing festivities.

VERDICT: All signs point to a clear day that should be perfect for NASCAR fans and drivers alike.
