NASCAR: Relive All Best Moments Moments of the 63rd Daytona 500, From Crash to Victory

If you didn’t have three hours to set aside to watch the Daytona 500, NASCAR has you covered. It cut a highlight reel from Sunday’s season-opening race featuring all of the highlights.

And it’s clear why this race is one of the perennial favorites of the year. Drivers look forward to it and taking home the victory can make careers. And Sunday’s run-delayed race continued that tradition. It was littered with big wrecks and surprises. Catch some of them below.

Daytona 500 Ending Doesn’t Disappoint

The most notable moment from Sunday’s Daytona 500 was the “pandemonium” on the final lap. Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski got tangled up jockeying for the lead. It ended in a fiery crash and heartbreak for Keselowski. Had he won, he would have been the second active NASCAR driver to win all four of the sports “crown jewels.” Those include the Daytona 500, Southern 500, Brickyard 500, and Coca-Cola 500.

“I had a big run down the backstretch and wanted to make the pass to win the Daytona 500 and it ended up really bad. I don’t feel like I made a mistake, but I can’t drive everybody else’s car, so frustrating,” Keselowski said after the race.

Logano finished 12th and Keselowski came in at a disappointing 13th. Though, not everyone was upset about the wreck. Michael McDowell collected the first Sprint Cup win of his career as he was ahead of Chase Elliot when officials pulled out the yellow flag. The race finished under caution.

Austin Dillon took third, Kevin Harvick finished fourth, and Denny Hamlin was fifth. Kyle Larson, who made his return to racing after NASCAR suspended him most of last season, finished 10th.

Bubba Wallace, who was making his debut with the new race team 23XI, finished 17th after being caught up in the final lap crash. Though he was more furious at McDowell after the eventual Daytona 500 winner spun him out earlier in the race.

“People say (McDowell’s) one of the nicest guys in the garage,” Wallace said, according to TMZ. “I can’t wait for the God-fearing text that he is going to send me about preaching and praise and respect. What a joke he is.”

McDowell hasn’t responded publicly to the insult.
