A special vehicle in this weekend’s NASCAR race will pay tribute to the late comedy icon and racing superfan Dustin Diamond.

Known to “Saved by the Bell” fans as Samuel “Screech” Powers, Dustin Diamond was in his element playing the quirky sidekick of Zach Morris. Diamond was also a huge racing fan and did several commercials for Insurance King, a NASCAR sponsor.

The car honoring Diamond is the idea of Insurance King President Dan Block, a close friend to Diamond for many years. Diamond played himself in several Insurance King commercials promoting the business. The commercials starring the actor are quite silly — which was right up Dustin Diamond’s alley.

“It’s alright because I am saved by the King,” he said in the commercial, playing off of a line from his hit show.

After battling stage four lung cancer for some time, Dustin Diamond passed earlier this year in February. Upon his passing, numerous actor, comedians, and other public figures paid tribute to the “Saved by the Bell” star. Now NASCAR will follow suit by showcasing the “Screech” themed stock car in this weekend’s race.

NASCAR Heads to Indianapolis This Weekend

The NASCAR vehicle will be wrapped today (Thursday) and should be ready to go for this Sunday’s Verizon 200. Block has not said why he chose this upcoming race to unveil the car, but it seems like the perfect time to do it. The “Screechmobile” will certainly garner plenty of attention and is a real eye-catcher, to say the least. Block and his team have been working on the vehicle for some time. He first revealed plans for the vehicle in January when Diamond’s health condition took a turn for the worst.

“Insurance King has worked with Dustin Diamond numerous times over the years on several marketing projects,” the tweet says. “We are working on a get-well Dustin NASCAR cup series paint scheme with Josh Bilicki for a 2021 race.”

The car is now ready for its first official NASCAR race and is a thing of beauty that would make Diamond proud. The league will head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the latest NASCAR Cup Series Race, an 82-lap race.

The number 52 car will be driven by NASCAR racing professional Josh Bilicki on Sunday. In addition to the car wrap, Billicki’s racing suit will also pay homage to Dustin Diamond. It will bear the actor’s name along with the years of his birth and death. The front of his uniform will read “Saved by the King,” Diamond’s catchphrase in the Insurance King commercials.
