Bubba Wallace may very well be “in my own world” according to his newest post on Twitter, but it’s certainly the kind of world fans want in on.
The iconic racing star is posing in his custom Dr. Pepper racing suit while looking cool and casual.
As it turns out, Bubba Wallace’s world consists of being a popular NASCAR driver. He is currently ranked as 21st in the Cup Series.
So far, his best finish during the Cup Series has been in fifth place. This was on June 27 at the Pocono Raceway. Here the 23XI racer gave the team a much-needed boost. It was the first top-10 finish for 23XI Racing. As it turns out, the co-owner of the team, Michael Jordan, was even in attendance that day.
He witnessed as Wallace soared across that finish line. He exited his car and hugged, fist-bumped, and excitedly celebrated with all his crew members and pit crew.
Although the team hasn’t had a lot of major success, it can be an upward battle to get to the victory lane.
Bubba Wallace and 23XI Team
Even Michael Jordan, one of the best, most successful, and all-around infamous basketball players ever understands that. It’s only the team’s first year, after all.
“He understands. Everybody talks about he’s a winner, he’s a champion, yeah, but he’s also a realistic person. He wants to win, for sure, but he knows what it’s going to take for us to get there. It’s more from me. It’s more from the team … more of a group effort. He’s in the background watching and enjoying. He’s hooked. Having Michael Jordan hooked to NASCAR is huge and that’s getting a lot of other big names hooked as well and that’s what the sport needs. We’ll keep on doing on our own thing, keep plugging along,” Bubba Wallace said, according to NBC Sports.
With Michael Jordan in his corner, the team is helping boost and diversify NASCAR audiences.
With the win comes all-new expectations. Those expectations are more wins or at least some top-ten finishes.
According to Sports Business Journal, Jordan and Curtis Polk, an investor for the team, were extremely “ecstatic and pumped up” after the solid race. Jordan apparently texted Wallace a new expectation he has for the driver. “Now he expects a Top 10 every week. So now we have to put our foot down and keep digging.”
Bubba Wallace’s most recent race was in the NASCAR Cup Series Race at Road America. Here he finished in 24th, far from the top ten. However, Denny Hamlin, the other co-owner of the 23XI, is currently ranked as No. 1 in the Cup Series points standing.
The next race will be Quaker State 400 Presented By Walmart at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 11.
