NASCAR Star Denny Hamlin Drops Epic Movie Poster-Style Pic Predicting Darlington Victory

NASCAR star Denny Hamlin knows how to get hyped up for a race. Earlier this month, he shared an awesome video that he hoped would allow him “speak” a race victory “into existence.”

On Sunday (May 8), he was back at it again. This time, he shared an epic movie poster-style photo that predicted he would win that day’s race at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.

The poster is styled after the famous “Days of Thunder” movie poster. The 1990 film starred Tom Cruise as a race car driver fighting to make a name for himself. The cast also included Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, and more.

Denny Hamlin’s version of the post features a picture of him instead of Cruise. At the top, is “HAMLIN” in all caps. At the bottom, instead of “Days of Thunder,” are the words “Days of Darlington.” Below is a list of names. This is meant to mimic the cast and creator list on an actual movie poster.

It also includes the tag line, “You can’t outrun the ‘Hurricane.’” Fans can read this as a bold prediction that the 40-year-old driver believes he will be the winner of Sunday’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway. The poster also offers fans – and no doubt other drivers – a reminder that Hamlin won races at Darlington in 2010, 2017, and 2020.

“Dropping the hammer,” Denny Hamlin simply said along with the epic photo on Twitter. “3:30 PM on @FS1#NASCARThrowback,” he added. You can check out the poster below.

Denny Hamlin’s No. 11 Will Have New Paint Scheme at Darlington

When he takes to the racetrack at Darlington Raceway on Sunday, Denny Hamlin’s No. 11 Toyota Camry will be sporting a cool throwback paint scheme.

The new paint scheme is a bold red and white design. And, according to a tweet the driver shared last week, it was created in honor of another NASCAR driver. That driver was Julius “Slick” Johnson. That late driver raced during the 1980s in the NASCAR Cup series.

Johnson’s career ended in tragedy in 1990. He died while racing at Daytona Motor Speedway. The South Carolina native was only 41 years old at the time of his death.

Hamlin Favored to Win Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway

According to NASCAR, Denny Hamlin is the favorite to win the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday. Should he win, it will be his first victory of the 2021 season.

The article references Hamlin’s consistency so far this season as evidence for the prediction that he will drive to victory. He has been consistent. During the first 11 races of the season, he has only finished worse than 12th in one of those races. There’s also the fact that he has won at Darlington three other times in his career.

Sunday’s Goodyear 400 will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET. For more details about how to watch the race, click here.
