It’s a big day in the world of NASCAR as the annual Geico 500 is ready for take-off this afternoon at the Talladega Speedway.

The annual race is one of NASCAR’s signature events, and it takes place at the historic track in Talladega, Alabama. It is also one of NASCAR’s most-watched races of the year, and today expects to be no different. Talladega Speedway has a reputation for being unpredictable, providing plenty of twists and turns. Fans can expect a highly competitive race as the 2.66-mile track is known to induce bumper-to-bumper action. The track has also provided some high-drama crashes among racers and their vehicles before. Last year’s race was an entertaining slop fest that saw three overtimes and 13 cautions — which set a course record.

Weather isn’t expecting to play a factor in today’s race after some initial concern earlier in the week. Fans can expect overcast skies and temperatures in the upper 50’s. The rain appears it will be holding and not affecting the race. By the NASCAR race’s finish, the clouds expect to roll out, giving way to clear skies.

NASCAR’s Geico 500 Ready to Rock Talladega

The highly-anticipated NASCAR race will crank up at 2 p.m. ET later today and is available on the Fox Network. The network’s pre-race show will begin a half-hour earlier at 1:30 p.m. ET. If you find yourself bound to your car today, the race will be available on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. It also available on various streaming networks, including Fox Sports Go and the FOX Sports Go app. Drivers will complete 188 laps during the course of the race, totaling just over 500 miles.

Interestingly, there was no on-track qualifying for today’s race, with NASCAR opting to use a performance-metrics formula to determine the lineup. With two Talladega wins under his belt, Denny Hamlin sits at the pole position for the race. Joey Logano, with his three Talladega wins, takes the second spot. Martin Truex, Jr., William Byron, and Alex Bowman round out the top five. The next five include Christopher Bell, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Kyle Busch, and Brad Keselowski.

With a perfect day for racing on tap, NASCAR fans are in for a fun and exciting Geico 500 race at Talladega Speedway.
