There’s a new team revving its engine ahead of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.
The new team in question is called Team Hezeberg. It is made up of racers from the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. Now, these racers decide to test their luck by fielding a car at the Cup Series on a part-time basis.
Team Hezeberg is a collaboration between Toine Hezemans and an engineer named Ernst Berg. The two have been close friends since they raced neck-and-neck in the 1970s. Before this upcoming team collaboration, the duo also sponsored a Formula 1 car back in the ’80s.
Also, a part of the team is Reaume Brothers Racing. These two are experts due to continual work both at the Xfinity Series and the Camping World Truck Series. They are offering their assistance in the technical support category.
The New Team Hezeberg
When the 2022 Cup Series rolls around, the team will be debuting the No. 27 Ford Mustang. Hezemans is going to be the driver behind the vehicle. He has proven his talents after winning the 2019 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. Starting in 2022, he wants to race on all the road races NASCAR has to offer.
The goal is to be approved for all the oval courses by 2023. “The introduction of the Next Gen car by NASCAR is at the core of our decision to build a team and join the NASCAR Cup Series. This new concept is the perfect challenge for us, and the model NASCAR built around the Next-Gen car makes the American market even more interesting, generating opportunities for a team to prosper,” Toine Hezemans said, according to Racer.
The two friends have a long journey ahead of them. However, both have extensive experience in the racing world as well as experience working with each other. “Toine’s friendship over the years and his phenomenal input in the sport inspired me to pick up on an automotive collaboration we had in the past and NASCAR with the Next Gen inspired us even more to take the challenge of being involved. Now let’s see what we can make of it — we believe we can revive the tremendous fun we had in the past,” Ernst Berg said.
In addition to 11 career wins during the Whelen Euro Series, Hezemans also has experience elsewhere. He’s also had three Xfinity starts with three different teams.
This new venture is going to give him a team to call home.
Other New Teams in NASCAR
Going into the 2022 season, there are three emerging now full-time teams to keep an eye on.

There is also the Justin Marks and Pitbull owned team called Trackhouse Racing Team. The B.J. McLeod and Matt Tifft team called Live Fast Motorsports is also one to look out for.
