On the heels of Friday’s rollout of the 2022 Ford F-150, the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro NASCAR Truck Series racer made its debut.

So now there are two 2022 NASCAR Truck Series pickup models, according to Fox News. They arrive as Toyota, Ford and Chevrolet have all begun retooling their NASCAR pickups to hew more closely to the production models. That means new front and back end designs and composite hoods and tails.

The Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Truck Series racer is similar to the 2022 Tundra TRD Pro off-road trim. The latter came out earlier in the week. It will go on sale by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, Chevy is likely to introduce its updated Silverado-based truck model before too long.

All of the new Truck Series trucks will debut at Daytona International Speedway in February of 2022.

Toyota to Use Tundra TRD Pro in NASCAR Truck Series Next Season

Toyota’s move to use the Tundra TRD Pro Truck Series racer in NASCAR races next season is part of its overhaul of vehicles used in the series, the Associated Press reports. Toyota revealed the new model right before the Friday night race at Las Vegas Speedway.

The carmaker has developed a new Tundra body for 2022. It’s the only manufacturer offering three different body styles for each of NASCAR’s three top series.

Typically, Toyota is known for racing vehicles that closely resemble the production vehicles.

“The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has always been extremely important to Toyota not only in our history, but our focus at our dealerships,” Paul Doleshal, group manager of motorsports for Toyota Motor North America, said in a statement.

Toyota first joined NASCAR via the Truck Series in 2004. It boasts eight driver championships and 11 manufacturer’s championships.

Next year, Toyota will run a Camry TRD in the Cup Series. The series is moving toward Next Gen models. Toyota’s Xfinity Series entry is the Toyota Supra.

Six out of 10 drivers to qualify for this season’s Truck Series playoffs are driving Toyotas. And Toyota is gearing up to nab a 12th manufacturer’s championship this season.

Tundra’s Launch ‘A Really Exciting Time’ for Toyota

Doleshal stressed that the Tundra TRD Pro is an extension of Toyota’s commitment to making its NASCAR racers mirror the cars in Toyota showrooms. The Tundra TRD Pro will appear in showrooms later this year.

“The launch of the new Tundra is a really exciting time for our entire organization,” he said. “So to be able to reflect that new styling in our NASCAR Tundra with the TRD Pro design is a reflection of the importance of the series to all of us and allows us to continue ensuring our on-track production resembles its production counterparts that can be found in our Toyota showrooms.”

Moreover, NASCAR driver and Kyle Busch Motorsports owner Kyle Busch chimed in to note that Kyle Busch Motorsports carries the Toyota Tundra badging.

“The new Tundra is really aggressive looking,” Busch said in a statement. “And it’s great to see that reflected in our NASCAR Tundras with the TRD Pro badging for the 2022 season.”
