The Tennessee Titans will host the Baltimore Ravens in Nashville this weekend in the first round of the AFC playoffs.

The Titans will honor six Nashville Police Officers at the game. The officers were instrumental in evacuating pedestrians after a bomb went off in downtown Nashville on Christmas morning. The officers will serve as the honorary “12th Titan” during Sunday’s wild-card playoff game. The six officers are members of the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The bomb went off inside a recreation vehicle early in the morning of December 25. The explosion devastated Second Avenue North in downtown Nashville.

The first responders participating in the ceremonious role are officers Amanda Topping, Michael Sipos, James Luellen, Brenna Hosey, James Wells and Sargent Timothy Miller. As 12th Titans, they will attend the game and wield the Titans Sword of Honor before plunging into the turf.

Nashville Recovering From Christmas Day Blast

A Titans officials says the gesture is but a small token of thanks for their city’s brave men and women.

“While we can never thank these officers enough for their heroic acts, it is an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to honor them at the game on Sunday,” Titans president and CEO Burke Nihill says. “We are grateful for their service to our community and appreciate that we’ll have them on-site to support the team.”

The team will continue to honor first responders with “615 Strong” decals on their helmets. On behalf of the department, Wells thanks the Titans organization for the tribute.

“To be able to stand at the stadium and receive this honor together is amazing,” he says. “(Our response on Christmas Day) was a total team effort. It was not what one individual did or said, it was about all of us coming together to protect our community, keep our community safe and keep each other safe.”
