New York Knicks Star Hops on Twitter For First Time in Five Months to Roast Reporter

New York Knicks fans, did you hear the latest about Nerlens Noel, your new big man? Seems he may want to be traded.

Check that. Noel came out of social media hibernation to clamp down on the rumor. A reporter who covers the NBA posted on Twitter:

“Per source, Nerlens Noel is unhappy in New York. He and coach, Tom Thibodeau are not seeing eye to eye. Source confirms that Noel has asked to be moved or bought out as soon as possible.”

But like the good defender he is, Noel deftly swatted away the rumor like someone’s errant shot. He wrote “Per who?? I’m waiting. Who put you up to this BS, Sir(?) I’m big chillen B, don’t come for me like that.”

And just in case New York Knicks fans still believed he was unhappy on their favorite team. Noel posted on Twitter again. He wrote: “People sit on Twitter making things up and talking noise. Trust me, I love being a Knick and am excited about what we are building here.”

Here’s what was so bizarre about the Tweets. Noel rarely shares anything on the platform. He has more than 225,000 followers.

But before he found himself putting rumors to rest this week, the last time he posted was Aug. 6. And even then, his tweet was a praying hands emoji in reaction to a story about his combo of 500 blocks and 450 steals. The tweet was originally one from the Oklahoma City Thunder, Noel’s former team.

Nerlens Noel Has Only Been With New York Knicks For Few Weeks

Nerlens Noel still may be having some transition issues from OKC to New York. He’s also suffering with a bad ankle. He missed last night’s game, his second straight, because of a left ankle sprain.

The NBA started play three days before Christmas. Because the world still is dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, the league cut 10 regular season games from each team’s schedule. The league already was late starting its season because Covid impacts from last year.

Appearing in six games thus far, Noel averaged 3.6 points and 5 rebounds a contest.

Nerlens Noel played briefly for Kentucky in college. A knee injury cut short his freshman season. But he earned SEC Freshman of the Year and Defender of the Year honors. Although he missed the final weeks of his freshman season, scouts found more than enough good info on him. The New Orleans Pelicans selected him with the sixth pick of the 2013 NBA draft.

He’s also played for Philadelphia and Dallas.
