No one is safe from the coronavirus and that includes the San Francisco 49ers. Even with all the precautions the team is taking, COVID-19 seems to have hit the camp. This comes just one day before the team is set to take on the Green Bay Packers for “Thursday Night Football.”

According to TMZ, the San Francisco 49ers are the latest team to shut down their facility due to coronavirus.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report that Kendrick Bourne, the 49ers wide receiver, tested positive for COVID-19. The organization has made the decision to shut down the team’s facility as a “precaution” in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. However, the decision comes with the issue of whether or not “Thursday Night Football” will proceed as planned.

In a statement from the team, there is confirmation of a player’s positive case.

This news comes right after Green Bay’s own run-in with the virus. Running back AJ Dillon tested positive earlier this week. In addition to Dillon, linebacker Kamal Martin and running Jamaal Williams have also been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The NFL has yet to comment on the status of the “Thursday Night Football” game as of Wednesday morning.

Thursday Night Football and COVID-19

This isn’t the first time that the coronavirus has reared its face in the NFL. Teams are owners alike have been susceptible to contracting the virus. Even in their insulated bubbles, the virus still finds a way to infect athletes and those surrounding them.

If Thursday night’s game gets postponed this would be the second time during the 2020 season. The first postponement came during Week 6. The Tennessee Titans were supposed to take on the Buffalo Bills. However, the game was rescheduled due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Titans organization.

A total of 10 NFL teams’ schedules have been affected by players and personnel testing positive for COVID-19.
