In the wake of a tragic loss in the Dallas Cowboys organization, the team is wearing a special helmet decal to pay tribute to strength coach Markus Paul.

The NFL franchise shared a photo of the helmets on social media writing: “#DallasCowboys wearing ‘MP’ stickers to honor Markus Paul.”

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, Paul suffered a medical emergency at the team’s facilities. Health professionals rushed Paul to the hospital shortly thereafter. However, he passed away a day later. Paul’s cause of death remains unannounced at this time.

Dallas Cowboys Reacts to Paul’s Passing

Shortly after the news of Paul’s passing surfaced, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released a statement to pay tribute to the late coach.

“The loss of a family member is a tragedy, and Markus Paul was a loved and valued member of our family,” Jones said. “He was a pleasant and calming influence in our strength room and throughout The Star. His passion for his work and his enthusiasm for life earned him great respect and admiration from all of our players and the entire organization.”

In conclusion, Jones states: “We offer our love and support to his family in this very difficult time. Our hearts are broken for his family and all of the individuals whose lives he touched and made better.”

In addition to Jones, Head Coach Mike McCarthy offered kind words and remembrances of Paul. McCarthy later spoke out in a statement of his own.

“Markus Paul was a leader in this building,” McCarthy said. “He earned the players respect and attention because he cared so much and was a naturally gifted communicator — both on the personal and professional levels. He handled every situation, sometimes with a smile and a pat on the back, and sometimes with tough love.”

Multiple Cowboys players also took to social media to pay tribute to Paul. Linebacker Jaylon Smith and cornerback Jourdan Lewis were among them.

“Thankyou (sic) Markus for being you,” Smith later wrote in response to Paul’s death. “Learned a lot from observing you. Servant leader [prayer hands emoji] Missing the laughs and jokes. Rest in heaven.”

Furthermore, Lewis adds: “My feelings are so hurt… My condolences to the Paul family. Coach Markus was a great man and loved getting us better, you will be missed Coach!”
