The NFL, like all major sports rating this year, are way down. This could be due to the social and political unrest or the pandemic that has plagued team’s schedules. What are the most and least-watched NFL games this year, however?

Most-Watched NFL Game

According to Sports Media Watch, this year’s most-watched NFL game was on week one against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers versus the New Orleans Saints. This game took place on Sunday, September 13, at 3:25 p.m. at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

The final score was 34 to 23, with the Saints taking the win. The game was broadcasted on Fox and had 25.85 million viewers tuning in.

The Buccaneers had a record of 7-9 in the 2019 season, and the Saints ended with 13-3 record.

Could the spike in rating be due to the two quarterback powerhouses, however?

For one, it’s the first game Tom Brady played for another team besides the Patriots in his career. He looked to disprove those who said his success was due to New England head coach Bill Belichick rather than his own talent.

For the Saints, Drew Brees has more passing records than any other quarterback in NFL history.

Least-Watched Game

On the other hand, Thursday Night Football has continued to struggle with viewership all season. The week four matchup between the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets was the least-watched game this season for the NFL, with only 5.41 million people watching. That is the smallest audience the league has seen in several years.

The game aired on the NFL Network at 7:20 on Thursday, October 1, at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey.

In the end, the Broncos beat the Jets 37 to 28. This is the Broncos only win so far this year, making their record 1-3. The Jets also continue to struggle with a record of 0-4 this year.

Both games had no in-person attendance.
