NHL: Jimmy Hayes’ Widow Posts Heart-Wrenching Video of Him With Their Kids Leading Up to His Funeral

Just hours leading up to his funeral, NHL star Jimmy Hayes’ widow took to Instagram to post a heart-wrenching video of him with their children before his death on August 23rd.

“A week ago today. Now, a favorite memory,” Jimmy Hayes’ wife Kristen wrote. “The music that just happens to be playing gives me chills.”

Kristen said that Jimmy Hayes’ son Beau has been watching video countless times with a smile saying, “again.” She goes on to write, “Today is going to be a tough one. Please give me strength 👼🏼 I love you the most. You should be here.”

Jimmy Hayes’ widow also shared pictures on Thursday of the couple and their children posing for family photos. The couple has two boys, 2-year-old Beau and 3-month-old Mac. “Little did I know [these family photos] would be our last photos of a family of four. I have no words. I’m heartbroken.”

Last Monday, Jimmy Hayes was found dead in his home, which is located in Ulster County, New York. He was 31-years-old. Officials have yet to announce the cause of the death. But the police department has stated it does not suspect any foul play or other suspicious circumstances. 

Jimmy Hayes was a right-winger and played for Boston College. He played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Ford Panthers, Boston Bruins, and the New Jersey Devils during his time in the NHL. His younger brother, Kevin Hayes also plays for the NHL. He is currently with the Philadelphia Flyers. The funeral service will take place on Monday (August 30th) in Boston.

NHL Nation Reacts to the Sudden Death of Jimmy Hayes 

Following the news that Jimmy Hayes passed away unexpectedly, fans and sports teams took to Twitter to share their condolences for the Hayes family. 

The Chicago Blackhawks wrote the organization is heartbroken to learn of the passing of Jimmy Hayes. The team shared that the hockey player’s warm personality made an immediate impact in the locker room as well as the Blackhawk fans. “We are proud of the memories he made in Chicago, including making his NHL debut in 2011. Sending our thoughts and prayers to his family.”

The Toronto Maple Leafs also offered their condolences by tweeting, “Know for his character and kindness around the world, Jimmy Hayes will be dearly missed by all. Our thoughts are with the entire Hayes family during this difficult time.”

The Boston Bruins then wrote, “The Boston Bruins are heartbroken by the passing of Dorchester native and former Bruin Jimmy Hayes. Our thoughts are with his wife Kristen, his sons Beau and Mac, and the entire Hayes family during this very difficult time.”
