O.J. Simpson Tweets ‘Let the Legal System Work’

O.J. Simpson turned legal analyst Friday, as he gave his thoughts on various hot button cases happening across the country.

Simpson, the former football star and convicted felon, did a two-minute long video and posted it on his Twitter account, sharing it with his 900k+ followers. He’s only been on Twitter since last June. But his videos usually get a lot of views.

The one he posted Friday was entitled “Let the legal system work.” It quickly was going viral, with more than 100,000 views in the first hour after O.J. Simpson posted it. We’ll give you some more information on the other side of the video. Simpson mentions several cases, ranging from Deshaun Watson, Derek Chauvin, Andrew Cuomo and Congressman Chip Roy.

First, Simpson tells us he’s been scrolling the news.

The first case he mentioned is that of Deshaun Watson, the Houston Texans quarterback. This week, Watson was hit with seven civil lawsuits from women who allege that the quarterback was inappropriate with them. In some cases, the women say that Watson sexually assaulted them. The cases were filed by Houston lawyer Tony Buzbee. The Houston police department would not say whether its officers are investigating Watson.

O.J. Simpson said: “And (the news) was a little depressing, you know. I’ve been a little depressed about the Deshaun Watson situation even though it appeared to be more about money. Because (the attorney) has been charging more about the civil case than the criminal case. And I don’t know how it’s going to turn out. I just hope it turns out right, but you’ve got to let these things go through the system. (New York Governor Andrew) Cuomo, all these cases, you’ve got to let it work.”

Cuomo is reportedly facing sexual harassment allegations in New York.

O.J. Simpson Talks George Floyd Case

Simpson said he liked the judge’s decision to deny a change of venue in the George Floyd murder case. Derek Chauvin is charged with murdering Floyd, whose death last summer sparked mass protests across the country. Chauvin, a former Minneapolis policeman, pleaded not guilty to second-degree unintentional murder and second-degree manslaughter charges in Floyd’s death. He has also pleaded not guilty to third-degree murder.

Simpson said about the case:

“I see where the judge in Minnesota decided not to change venue in the Chauvin case. That’s the George Floyd situation. And I thought that was a good decision. I never wanted to ask to have a venue changed even though I saw on Law and Order once that it implied that I did. But no, I never did. I don’t think it works. In this day and age, you got cable TV, everybody knows everything about everything, you know what I’m saying. So I see in Minnesota, they have a jury of his peers right now that reflects the neighborhood and I think that’s a real good thing.”

Simpson Then Discusses Texas Congressman

Finally, Simpson brought up Texas Congressman Chip Roy, whom he mistakenly thinks is a Senator named McCoy.

Roy brought up lynching during a Congressional hearing this week on hate crimes against Asian-Americans. He brought up what he called “an old Texas saying.”

Roy said: “The victims of race-based violence and their families deserve justice. We believe in justice. There’s an old saying in Texas ‘Find all the rope in Texas and get a tall oak tree.’ We take justice every seriously, round up the bad guys, that’s what we believe.”

However, that’s not an old Texas saying. It’s a lyric from the Toby Keith/Willie Nelson song Beer for My Horses. Willie is a native Texan, but Keith is from Oklahoma. So Keith was trending on Twitter, although he had nothing to do with the Congressional hearing.

Here’s what O.J. Simpson had to say:

“I also was watching TV. And I saw this Senator, McCoy something down in Texas, talking about getting a big oak tree and a rope…and referring to lynching bad guys. Well, that kind of upset me. When I was a kid, I remember two books that were pretty much required reading. One was Animal Farm. And the other one was the Ox-bow Incident. They did a movie about the Ox-bow Incident. And it kind of pointed out the dangers of taking the law into your own hands and lynching.

“It seems that somebody should make this Senator, get him to read the Ox-bow Incident or at least watch the movie. I’m just saying. In any event, let the legal system work.”

And with that, Simpson finished his court analysis and bid his followers farewell.

“Get your shots,” he said. “Stay safe and wear the masks, I’m just saying. Take care. “
