Orlando Magic players acted like they were celebrating a playoff win. But their locker room party Wednesday night was for rookie Cole Anthony.
The official Twitter account of the Magic posted a video clip of the celebration. They dubbed it “File this under: Things You Love to See.”
You can see Cole Anthony shoot the game-winner here to clinch the Orlando Magic victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. You’ve got to admit it, that’s a cool shot.
The game-winner came via fast-break after Anthony grabbed the rebound of the second free throw miss by Jarred Vanderbilt. Cole Anthony had just enough time to sprint down the court, set his feet and lean in for the shot from three-point land. The shot went through the basket with .3 seconds left in the game.
Cole Anthony scored 10 points and was a perfect three-for-three from three-point range. Two of those three-pointers came in the game’s final minute.
Anthony also had seven rebounds, including that final, critical defensive board.
Cole Anthony Has Played In Only 15 Games With Orlando Magic
Not a bad outing for a rookie in his first full month playing pro basketball. Anthony is averaging 10.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game for the season. He’s played in 15 games.
An injury to Orlando Magic starter Markelle Fultz forced Cole Anthony into the starting role earlier in the year.
Anthony, the son of former NBA player Greg Anthony, spent one season playing for the North Carolina Tar Heels. The Orlando Magic selected Cole Anthony with the 15th pick of the NBA draft.
Now, why were the Orlando Magic in such a celebratory mood after a 97-96 victory? It’s only a game in late January? The victory broke the Magic’s six-game losing streak. So pop whatever’s cold and pull out your cell phones to mark the occasion.
