Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City Mayor Take To Twitter, Begging for Toronto Raptors’ Relocation

A tweet from Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has Kansas City launching a campaign to be the temporary home of the Toronto Raptors.

Mahomes took to Twitter yesterday to call for the Raptors NBA team to temporarily relocate to Kansas City.

As of right now, the NBA is seemingly moving forward without the bubble set up that the league had in Orlando. This leaves the Toronto Raptors looking for a temporary home in U.S. for at least next season. Canada closed its borders to the U.S. due to coronavirus concerns.

It seems like Mahomes has just the place in mind.

“Bring them to KC!” the Super Bowl champ wrote on Twitter.

‘Working on it’

Shortly thereafter, Quinton Lucas, Mayor of Kansas City, responded to Mahomes, saying he’s “working on it.”

We’ve already seen other professional sports teams in Toronto move to temporary U.S. locations. The Toronto Bluejays played home games in Buffalo and the Toronto FC soccer club played in Hartford, Connecticut.

With this in mind, now we wait to see where the Raptors wind up. There was a rumor they may relocate to Louisville for the time being. However, it seems as though Mayor Lucas in Kansas isn’t going down without a fight.

Furthermore, Mayor Lucas tweeted yesterday saying “KC never stops working on it, actually beginning with my predecessor former Mayor Kay Barnes who spoke to then-Commissioner Stern about relocation. This is shorter opportunity and window, but that’s what we do in government… look for and see how we can seize opportunities.”

He followed that up with a tweet early this morning with the famous Toronto hashtag #WeTheNorth.

“Good morning, Kansas City! It’s currently 13 degrees colder here than in Toronto (7 degrees Celsius). #WeTheNorth Bonjour, KansasCity! Il fair actuallement 13 degrés de moins ici qu’à Toronto (7 degrés Celsius).”

Kansas City, meanwhile, hasn’t had a basketball team since the Kings relocated to Sacramento after the 1984-85 season. Along with Patrick Mahomes, the city’s residents would without a doubt welcome an NBA franchise. They would especially welcome the Raptors, who are constantly in contention to make the NBA Finals.
