The world’s greatest golfer, Dustin Johnson, and his gorgeous model fiancé, Paulina Gretzky, are just the second couple ever to pose for Cigar Aficionado.
Undoubtedly, Dustin Johnson has made a name for himself in the golf world. In 2016 he won the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club with a 4-under-par score. And last year, he dominated the 2020 Masters Tournament with a record score of 268, 20-under-par. However, now he’s being recognized for something entirely separate from his golfing accomplishments: his love for cigars. The March/April issue of Cigar Aficionado, features Johnson and his fiancé, model Paulina Gretzky on the cover. Johnson holds a cigar in one hand while Gretzky leans against him. Then the two pose on a bench in front of a golf course.
The description for the feature reads, “Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky are one of the world’s most famous power couples, and the two—complete with cigars—appear on the March/April cover of Cigar Aficionado.”
The cover story shares the details behind Johnson’s successful golf career. They even highlight one of his childhood golf memories. “His cover story details how he always dreamed of winning at golf’s highest level, even when he was a young boy smacking balls at the driving range until 10 o’clock at night,” reads the feature.
As a matter of fact, it was his soon-to-be superstar of a father-in-law’s idea for Johnson and Paulina to be on the cover of Cigar Aficionado. NHL legend Wayne Gretzky, also known as ‘The Great One” spoke with the magazine editor and suggested that his daughter and Johnson remake the cover photo Wayne did with his wife, Janet, 24 years ago. Furthermore, Wayne and Janet and Paulina and Dustin are the only couples to ever grace the cover of Cigar Aficionado.
When it comes to cigars for Dustin Johnson, he tells the magazine, “I like ’em, but it’s not a regular thing. I’m sure as I age I’ll probably appreciate them more. Very occasionally I’ll have one, but just not a whole lot.”
Dustin Johnson Wrote a Tribute to Tiger Woods
Following Tiger Woods’s car accident last month, the golfing community found different ways to send their support to Woods. Dustin Johnson quickly shared his thoughts via Twitter. In a post, he wrote, “Hate to see the news about Tiger. Wishing him a quick recovery and a Ben Hogan style comeback. If anyone can do it, it’s TW.”
Johnson referenced Ben Hogan, a professional golfer who was involved in a near-fatal car accident of his own in 1949. Doctors told Hogan that he would never walk again. However, he defied the odds when he went on to win six more major titles. During an interview, Johnson later added to his thoughts on Tiger.
“Obviously it’s a terrible situation, you never want anything bad to happen to people. And obviously, I hope for a speedy recovery,” said Johnson. “He’s such a big part of the PGA Tour and what it has become today. Once he is not playing anymore, definitely the game will miss him, but I feel like he’ll always somehow be around and involved with the game.”
What’s more, a quote from Tiger Woods on Johnson is included in the recent Cigar Aficionado issue.
“He’s one of the first guys to ever bring athleticism to our sport,” Woods said of Johnson.
