Photo: Drew Brees’ Kids Hilariously Blinged Out Their ‘Elf on the Shelf’

New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees is making good use of his free time on the team’s injured reserve. The NFL superstar is coming up with creative ways for “Elf on the Shelf” to keep his kids entertained for the holidays.

Brees took to social media on Saturday to share the family’s elf and his latest adventures in the quarterback’s home. The elf got a little bit of a makeover and new swag from the Brees family.

Along with Instagram, Brees put the photo and a caption on his personal Twitter account as well for his fans to see.

“My boys thought Elf on the Shelf would look better with some chains,” Brees says. The photo shows the elf with a couple of mini gold necklaces around his neck — a new look for the elf.

Brees Family One of Many With ‘Elf on the Shelf’

Elf on the Shelf has become a cultural phenomenon as the calendar counts down to the holiday season each year. Parents use the toy to make their children think the elf was sent from the North Pole by Santa Claus himself. The elf’s objective is to watch the behavior of young children to determine if they belong on the nice or naughty list. The elf lives in the family’s house for several days in order to get a good feel for how the children are behaving on a daily basis. Once his time with the family is up, the elf heads back to the North Pole to give the jolly one his report.

While living at the family quarters, the Elf on the Shelf is known to cause mischief around the house. Social Media is littered with photos of creative ways that parents have put their elf to good use.

Brees’ social media followers got a kick out of his post. Many responded to his tweet and Instagram post with their own creative Elf on the Shelf ideas. Others simply pointed out the hilarity of an elf wearing gold chains around his neck.

“That is so cute,” a fan tweets.

“They were right,” another says.

“That is awesome,” a Brees fan replies.
