Dez Bryant is celebrating his debut with the Baltimore Ravens by honoring a legend from a different sport. Bryant wore late NBA superstar and icon Kobe Bryant’s Lakers jersey.
Bystanders captured the NFL player wearing the No. 8 Lakers jersey as he entered Lucas Oil Stadium. Dez Bryant is making his debut in the matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Kobe Bryant played for 20 years in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers. He won five championship rings during his career in the sport. Bryant, along with his daughter Gianna and seven others, died in a helicopter crash earlier this year on Jan. 26, 2020. His death shocked not only the sports community but the nation at large.
Since his death, both fans and fellow athletes across the country have paid tribute to Kobe and his legacy. Previously, Dez Bryant admitted he was a huge fan of the athlete.
Dez Bryant Joins Baltimore Ravens
In late October, Dez Bryant joined with the Ravens on their practice squad. He was activated on Saturday (Nov. 7) to play in the matchup against the Colts. Joining the Ravens was an emotional experience for Bryant.
He played for the New Orleans Saints in 2018. But he never got the chance to play in a game for the team. He tore his Achilles tendon in his foot during practice for the Saints. The last time Bryant played in the NFL was in 2017. He played for the Dallas Cowboys, racking up 69 catches for six touchdowns and 838 years.
Throughout his eight-year career, Bryant was often a force to be reckoned with. He averaged 14 yards per carry and has over 500 catches in his career, prior to the matchup against the Colts. He also scored 73 touchdowns during his career.
“My emotions are running high right now…I’m thankful…I can’t stop crying,” he tweets on Tuesday afternoon.
