A pro wrestler died this weekend after collapsing in the ring on Saturday. Principe Aéreo was performing at Arena San Juan Pantitlan in Mexico City during a Mexa Wrestling event when he unexpectedly fainted, TMZ reported. The luchador, whose real name is Luis Ángel Salazar, was 26.
Everything seemed to be going along normally during a tag-team match on Saturday. Salazar was getting the local crowd excited until he took two chest slaps and a kick to his stomach. He suddenly fainted in the middle of the ring, TMZ said.
The referee and his opponent knew something was wrong instantly with Salazar and they called for paramedics. He was rushed out of the arena within minutes and taken to a nearby hospital. Salazar was pronounced dead shortly after.
MasLucha.com reported that Salazar died from a “ruptured middle cerebral artery.” Video of his final moments in the ring is being passed around Twitter.
