During Sunday afternoon’s Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals broadcast, the radio announcers were interrupted by an intruding fan. NFL fans are used to game coverage occasionally being interrupted by field intruders, but this has to be a first for radio listeners.

Baltimore Ravens fans who tuned in to WBAL on Sunday heard a strange commotion during the broadcast. Yet with no visuals, they had no clue what was going on in the broadcast booth inside of M&T Bank Stadium.

Broadcasters Gerry Sandusky and Obafemi “Femi” Ayanbadejo called the game for their hometown Ravens on WBAL. While announcing the first quarter, fans listening on the radio could hear Ayanbadejo yelling “What are you doing?” However, it wasn’t exactly clear who the broadcaster was speaking to when screaming in the middle of the game.

Many fans at home likely thought that Ayanbadejo could’ve been questioning the play call or a player’s performance on the field. But that wasn’t the case. The radio station cut to dead air for about a minute, but when they returned the NFL announcers explained the strange scene. It turns out a woman in the stands who identified herself as a military veteran was on the hunt for an(other) alcoholic beverage.

Ravens Announcer Amusingly Says ‘I Don’t Serve Drinks at the Game’

We’re sure everyone involved with the broadcast booth incident is appreciative of the U.S. veteran’s service. However, it’s no surprise the female fan was out of luck looking for her next adult drink in a radio announcer’s booth. The broadcast duo went on to explain the random encounter to listeners.

“If you were listening, you heard Femi say ‘What are you doing? What are you doing?’ He was not talking to the players or the coaches. We actually had a fan who was trying to climb into the broadcast booth,” Sandusky explained on-air. “She said, ‘I’m a veteran and I’m looking for a drink.’”

“Yeah, I don’t serve drinks at the game,” Ayanbadejo hilariously responded, although he didn’t sound amused. “I might make some cocktails at home, but this is not the time or place.”

“You just never know who is going to pop up or show up on game day,” Sandusky joked in the clip.

We’re not exactly sure how the incident played out afterward. There are so many questions that need answering. Did the fan climb all the way into the booth and get escorted out of the stadium? Or did she simply climb back down, sit in her seat, and enjoy the rest of the game? In addition, did she ever get that drink she wanted?

Honestly, if she’s a Baltimore Ravens fan she may have just been trying to drown her sorrows and we couldn’t blame her. The team trailed Cincinnati all day long, and ended up getting spanked 41-17. Not their best performance, and it’s probably safe to assume it wasn’t that veteran’s finest hour.
