Recently, model Camille Kostek, the girlfriend of Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski, opened up about how the couple first met.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model joined SiriusXM’s “This Is Happening with Mark Zito and Ryan Sampson” for an upcoming episode of their podcast. The hosts asked her about her famous relationship and how it began.
“So we were actually, it was November 2013 and we were at a Goodwill event. It was right before Thanksgiving,” Kostek recalled. “So we were filling turkey baskets for families who are less fortunate.”
In patented Gronk fashion, Kostek then revealed the amusing way the tight end passed on his number to her.
“He ripped off his ‘Hi, my name is Rob Gronkowski’ sticker on his shirt,” Kostek explained. “So he had written on the back of it his phone number and then he wrote ‘Shhh,’ because he knew it was, it was a secret.”
At the time, Kostek was a member of the New England Patriots cheerleading squad. The cheerleaders technically aren’t allowed to date the players, so she admits to feeling scared after taking his number. In fact, Gronkowski got an assist from his teammate and fellow tight end Jermaine Wiggins who delivered the sticker for him.
“I was a rookie [Patriots cheerleader] and I was so scared. I was like, ‘Oh no, no, no, I can’t take this, I can’t take his number.’ And then [Wiggins] was like, ‘Just take it,’ and I was like, ‘Okay,’ and I put it in my pocket,” Kostek said. “And I never spoke about it again. I didn’t make it locker room talk. I never spoke about it.”
Camille Kostek Talks About The Couple’s First Phone Call
Camille Kostek, 28, reportedly began dating Rob Gronkowski, 31, back in 2015. The model says she’s glad the couple met before the days of COVID-19 and that they met in-person instead of on a dating app.
“I feel like it’s very rare these days to meet at the library and the grocery store or wherever else. Especially in this COVID world where you can’t even see half your face out. So I feel like it’s made dating a lot harder,” Kostek explained.
It took Kostek a few days to contact Gronkowski. She didn’t know if she should, but she eventually FaceTimed the tight end.
“… I FaceTimed him and I put my phone down and I like looked away from it. And then he answered it and he didn’t look either. I was like, ‘Hello.’ He was like, ‘Who is this? You called me.’ And I was like, ‘Um, who’s this?’ I could tell it was his voice and he like, peeked his head over,” Kostek said of their first call.
“He had just gotten back from a Texans game,” she continued. “So he had like a suit on and everything. And he was like, ‘Hello?’ And I was like, ‘It’s Camille.’ And he was beaming. ‘He was like, Oh my God, I never thought you’d call me.'”
“Little did we know, 2021 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I’m here as his girlfriend almost eight years later. It’s kind of crazy,” she admitted.
Model Discusses Possible Engagement to the Tight End
During her appearance on the podcast, Camille Kostek called herself a “simple girl.” Additionally, she discussed the possibility of a future engagement to Gronkowski and a potential ring.
“I do have one [in mind]. I’m like a very simple, simple girl,” Kostek told the co-hosts about her ideal ring. “[I’m] also one of those people, you know how like, people don’t tell you what they’re going to name their baby until their baby is born and they tell you, that’s what it is for me. I’ll wait until my ring is out. And then it can be like, this is what I always wanted.”
Kostek isn’t rushing the process, but did have one more suggestion for her boyfriend for the big moment. The model hopes Gronk will be “smart enough” to ask her sisters or close friends for advice on choosing a ring. However, Kostek says the couple currently have their eyes on a different ring. The pair are “[focused] on the big ring]” the tight end will earn if Tampa Bay wins Super Bowl LV on Sunday.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday to determine who will lift this year’s Lombardi Trophy.
