The ex-Seahawks player Chad Wheeler was arrested Friday after suspicions of domestic violence due to an altercation at an apartment in Seattle. Now, he is being charged with three different criminal charges.

Chad Wheeler: The 3 Criminal Charges

Wheeler is facing charges for first-degree domestic violence assault, domestic violence unlawful imprisonment and resisting arrest. He will be entering a plea during his arrangement which is scheduled to take place on February 9. If convicted, he could serve up to 12 years in prison.

Police responded to the situation and arrested Wheeler at the scene of the crime.

“(Wheeler) viciously attacked the victim in her bedroom, strangling her at times with both hands,” according to court documents related to the incident from CNN. He also is reportedly being accused of strangling his girlfriend twice until she lost consciousness.

According to TMZ, court documents stated that “The defendant, who is physically conditioned and trained to compete at the highest level of professional sports, strangled, suffocated and beat the victim into unconsciousness — twice — both times leaving her for dead as blood poured from her nose and mouth, and into her stomach and lungs.”

She texted different friends, her family, as well as Wheeler’s father to call 911 during the incident. Police heard screaming when they went to enter the apartment. They used a taser on Wheeler, but it reportedly had little effect.

Wheeler has since responded to the attack on his Twitter. He said he was leaving football and that his actions were the result of a “manic episode.”

Wheeler appeared in court on Monday where his bail was $400,000. He was then released on bail Tuesday morning.

The Seattle Seahawks have also responded to the incident with Wheeler. The team said he is a free agent and will no longer be playing with the team.

The Seahawks also said they “are saddened by the details emerging against Chad Wheeler and strongly condemn this act of domestic violence.”

Details About the Event

ESPN recalled details from the incident report from that night. The report states that the woman called 911 and said she was being “killed.”

In addition to choking her until she lost consciousness, he also put a hand down her throat and pressed it to her nose and mouth to make it so she couldn’t breathe.

Wheeler also allegedly “violently grab her left arm and rip her body back toward him.”

When she had regained consciousness after being chocked for the second time, Wheeler walked back into the room. He said, “Oh, you’re still alive.” He expressed surprise that his actions had not resulted in her death.

The incident has caused a number of social media users to react in fury. Many were wondering why Chad Wheeler’s name was not viral after the incident. They called on the NFL and the Seahawks to properly address the issue. Other NFL players, such a Dez Bryant, have also spoken out about the attack.

When police got there her face was reportedly covered in blood, her left arm was swollen, she had fingerprints on her neck, and she was crying in pain.

She was taken to the hospital after the attack. Here it was discovered she had a fractured humerus and dislocated elbow. Her eyes were red, a sign of strangulation. A scan of her chest also indicates that she had aspirated a lot of fluid and she threw up blood the next day. She had difficulties swallowing and eating due to a possibly injured neck.

The woman informed police that Wheeler was bipolar, but had stopped taking his medication recently. He suddenly snapped and told her to bow down to him. When she refused, he started to attack her.
