Steelers’ Legend Terry Bradshaw Could Give ’Yellowstone’s John Dutton a Run for His Money: Behind His Ranching Passion

Pittsburgh Steelers legendary quarterback and NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw is most known for his time on the football field.

It is for good reason as his play on the field made him one of the most successful players in NFL history. Terry Bradshaw led his Steelers team to four Super Bowl wins in a five-year span. He played 14 seasons with the Steelers and for his accomplishments, he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1989. He is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996 after playing collegiately at Louisiana Tech. During his NFL career, he amassed nearly 28,000 passing yards, more than 2,000 rushing yards and threw 212 touchdowns.

After retiring in 1983, Terry Bradshaw has found a great deal of success in a different venue. He has been a football analyst since 1994 and co-hosts Fox NFL Sunday. He also has made several film appearances, including co-starring next to Matthew McConaughey in “Failure to Launch” and Burt Reynolds in “Cannonball Run.” Most recently he appeared as a contestant on “The Masked Singer,” where he wore a deer costume to fool judges.

While these are examples of Terry Bradshaw’s great and many talents, his heart belongs to the ranch and rodeo life. Bradshaw’s prized bull will be performing in a rodeo this weekend. The former Steeler plans on making the trip to Odin, Kansas, to see the bull try and buck off a few cowboys at the Odin Fair Grounds.

In a 2020 interview with Cowboys and Indians, Terry Bradshaw speaks out on his love for all things western. In addition to his beloved bucking bull, the former quarterback takes great joy in raising Quarter Horses. Bradshaw says he and his wife, Tammy, often attend the “Quarter Horse Super Bowl.”

“We go to Oklahoma City to attend horse shows and to show horses,” Terry Bradshaw says. “We go there two or three times a year. At the American Quarter Horse World Show, which is our Super Bowl and is there every year in November, we show in halter. We’ll show for a solid week. I would encourage anyone that loves the American Quarter Horse, you have to go to the American Quarter Horse World.”

Terry Bradshaw pulls no punches when speaking of his love for showing horses. It’s enough to Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone character, John Dutton, a run for his money.

“It’s the most incredible time that you can have,” he says emphatically. “People come from around the world just for the two weeks of that show. All of us compete against one another and we’re all friends. We meet there and it is a big family atmosphere.”
