Early this morning, PGA golfer and 15-time Major Golf Champion Tiger Woods got into a serious single-car accident. First responders answered the call around 7:12 in the morning and rushed to Hawthorne Blvd near Blackhorse Rd in Ranchos Palos Verdes, California. Upon arriving at the scene of the crash, medics had to use the jaws of life to rescue the superstar golfer.
Tiger Woods was rushed to the hospital and quickly taken into surgery. He apparently suffered serious injuries in both of his legs. The professional golfer has dealt with health issues throughout the ladder half of his career, mostly involving his back. With that said, these serious injuries alongside his already aging body don’t bode well for a healthy return to golf for Tiger Woods.
Lindsey Vonn Supports Tiger Woods After Crash
As soon as the news broke, Tiger Woods’ ex-girlfriend Lindsey Vonn Tweeted her support for her former boyfriend. The couple dated for almost three years before splitting up in 2015 surrounding cheating allegations against Woods. Despite that messy situation and their highly covered split, Vonn continues to show her support for Tiger.
“Praying for TW right now,” Lindsey Vonn Tweeted along with a prayer hand emoji. The two have continued to show support and admiration for each other since the split. In 2018 as Tiger Woods began to come back onto the golfing scene, Vonn cheered him on. She said, “I support him. We’re friends, we congratulate each other … it’s really nice to see him playing so well again.”
The Comeback of a Lifetime
Tiger Woods went on to win the Masters Tournament in 2019 after over ten years without winning a major. This brought his major championship number up to fifteen, second on the all-time list. He still sits three behind Jack Nicklaus, where he will likely remain.
In the past ten years, Woods had one of the biggest downfalls of any sports athlete in history. In a span of years, he went from the greatest player in golf to an outcast from the golf world. He was involved in several DUI’s, caught cheating, and exposed for some terrible behavior. He battled back injuries and was set back by surgery after surgery for several years.
When he came back to win the Masters in 2019, woods completed his incredible comeback story. Debatably the greatest, certainly in golf, but likely in all sports.
Due to his aging body and constantly injured back, Woods had a small chance of reaching Nicklaus’ record of 18. Now, due to the serious leg injuries sustained in the car crash today, we may never see Tiger Woods on the PGA Tour ever again.
This is a very sad day for golf fans everywhere, as we may see the end of one of the most exciting, entertaining, and dramatic careers in professional golf history. With that said, what Tiger Woods has done for the sport of golf by breaking racial barriers and completely revolutionizing the game will leave behind a legacy never to be forgotten. Whether or not he can come back and appear on the Tour, he will always be remembered as one of, if not the greatest golfer to ever play the sport.
