Tiger Woods: The Latest on His Health Following Major Car Crash in February

It has been six months and golf legend Tiger Woods is continuing to recover from his February car crash with each passing day. But he is still a way out from hitting the golf course.

You probably recall what happened to the golf star earlier this year. Woods sustained serious lower-body injuries back on February 23 after being involved in a single-car rollover crash. According to reports at the time, Woods was driving his car through Southern California — specifically Rolling Hill Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes — when he hit a sign n the center of the road. That caused him to veer off and go through a tree before coming to a stop on the side of the road.

However, a source close to Woods recently spoke to People Magazine. They say that Woods is getting better and better.

“Tiger is in good spirits and doing well, but he has not been able to play any golf at all,” the source said.

Back in July, fellow golf star and close friend of Woods, Rickie Fowler, told Golf Digest that Woods was rehabbing every day to try and get back.

“I know he’s been getting after it as far as rehab goes. That takes up most of his day,” Fowler explained. “I know it’s been tough. It’s a long road till now, he’s got a long road ahead, but he’s putting in the work.”

Tiger Woods Recovering From Serious Lower Body Injury

The injuries that Tiger Woods sustained back in February were serious and most definitely not for the faint at heart. Anish Mahajan, MD, chief medical officer at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center explained as much in an official statement following the accident.

He said that “Woods suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity.” In other words, Woods had open fractures in his lower right leg. Mahajan said that his tibia and fibula and broken through the skin, which requires immediate surgery.

But like any professional athlete who comes back from a major injury, Woods knows that he has to attack his rehab with the same focus that he would have at The Masters.

“I do my routines every day and am focused on my No. 1 goal right now: walking on my own. Taking it one step at a time,” he said. “At the time, he declined to answer a question about whether or not he would ever be able to play golf again.

And this isn’t the first time around the block for Tiger Woods as far as injuries go. He has dealt with multiple issues throughout his career. But perhaps none of them were quite as painful as this one.

“This has been an entirely different animal. I understand more of the rehab processes because of my past injuries, but this was more painful than anything I have ever experienced.”

With all of that said, Woods is thankful that he has a community — both in the sport and outside of it — that he can lean on.

“I have had so much support from people both inside and outside of golf, which means so much to me and has helped tremendously.”
