Just days after Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach Urban Meyer made headlines over a viral video of him acting inappropriately at a bar, Tim Tebow is now speaking out about his former University of Florida coach’s behavior.
During his interview with ESPN’s First Take on Friday (October 8th), Tebow described Urban Meyer’s situation as being “very disappointing, frustrating, and honestly heartbreaking.”
“When I first saw and heard what was happening, my heart was hurting for Miss Shelley, [Urban Meyer’s] wife,” Tebow shared. The football player also said that Meyer’s wife is someone he loves very much and he’s still close with Meyer’s daughters.
Tebow goes on to add, “It’s a very difficult week, and my advice to [Urban Meyer] was to apologize. To admit it. To learn from it and to never, never repeat it.”
As previously reported, the viral video showed Urban Meyer sitting on a barstool as a woman dancing in front of him. There is also a snapshot of him and the woman. During a press conference earlier this week, Meyer apologized to the team and staff for being a distraction. “It was stupid.”
Urban Meyer further explained that he was at an event when the situation occurred. He said he never should have put himself into the situation, to begin with, and that he should have left. “They wanted me to come over and take pictures, and I did. [They] tried to pull me out on the dance floor, screwing around, but I should’ve left.”
Mother of Unknown Woman With Urban Meyer Speaks Out About Her Daughter’s Current Emotional State
On Thursday (October 7th) the mother of the woman in viral video with Urban Meyer spoke to USA Today about her daughter’s current emotional state. “[She] can’t even go anywhere,” the unknown woman’s mother stated. She also revealed that the video is ruining her life. “I’m worried for her emotional status right now.”
The media outlet also revealed that New Horizon Media Group, which is the woman’s employer, also announced it is now conducting an internal investigation into the incident involving Urban Meyer. The woman’s mother said she is praying that her daughter will not be fired over the situation because she needs the job. “She just bought a house.”
Brian Duncan, an attorney representing New Horizon Media Group, shared with USA Today that the company is not in a position to make any determination as to the woman’s employment status. The lawyer also noted that she is still working for the company as the investigation is being conducted.
Duncan then stated, “We’ve had no prior issues with her whatsoever. She’s been a very solid asset to the company. We’re going to undertake our internal investigation to determine, what, if any, impact this has on the company. We’ll proceed accordingly.”
Duncan further revealed New Horizon Media Group has done work for Urban Chophouse. This is a joint venture with Meyer and an Ohio restaurateur. There is also no knowledge that the woman has had a previous relationship with Meyer.
