Tom Brady didn’t get the most welcome greeting during Peyton Manning’s speech.

Both Brady and Manning attended the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony on Sunday, August 8. Just at the mere mention of his rival Brady in his speech led to the crowd booing him. Manning was introduced by his father, Archie Manning, to accept his induction.

“And speaking of rivals, my good friend Tom Brady is here tonight,” Manning told the audience. The crowd responded by booing him loudly. So much so, that he turned around and responded, “What’s up with that? What’d I do wrong?” Manning took the time to briefly poke fun at his always busy adversary.

“By the time Tom Brady is inducted in his first year of eligibility in the year 2035, he’ll only have time to post his acceptance speech on his Instagram account.”

When Peyton Manning took the stage, he received a standing ovation. The five-time MVP confirmed the notion that the busts speak to one another at night. He then spoke about his quarterback alum father, who played ball at Ole Miss. He then went pro and spent eleven years with the Saints.

“In my youth in New Orleans and in Newman School, football carved out a place for my favorite quarterback, my hero, my role model, my dad, Archie Manning to pass on something he loved to me,” Manning continued. “Dad, there’s no one I’d rather have or would be appropriate than you to welcome me to this stage.”

Other honorees included Drew Pearson, Tom Flores, John Lynch, Calvin Johnson, Alan Faneca, Charles Woodson, and Bill Nunn.

Peyton Manning Looks Back at His Career

Peyton Manning spoke about the ceremony and how much it meant to him to have his father introduce him. He spoke with Complex about how he felt “honored” and “humbled” by the experience. Manning invited his former teammates, coaches, high school friends, and college buddies for the event.

“Everybody’s living all over the country, and businesses and families and kids,” he said. “And so, to get all of these people together that have been an important part of my football journey, I’m excited about that. More than anything is seeing those people, but I’m very honored and humbled to join such a special fraternity.”

When speaking about pivotal moments in his career, the first that comes to mind is getting drafted by the Indianapolis Colts. He was thrilled to be part of a turnaround with people including Edgerrin James and Marvin Harrison.

It was off to the Denver Broncos next. Peyton Manning also cited moments on that team as being pinnacle for his career.

“And then in Denver, coming off that injury,” he continued. “Denver was very welcoming to me in sort of putting in a lot of the same plays that I ran with the Colts into the Broncos playbook. The fans were very embracing, and we still live in Denver today.”

At the end of the day, both teams were formative in his personal life and football career.
