The latest person to offer their words on congratulations to Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews should come as no surprise. It was Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce.

As many fans know by now, Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his fiancee, Brittany Matthews, gave birth to their first child on Saturday. Sterling Skye Mahomes came into the world weighing in at six pounds and 11 ounces.

Brittany Matthews officially broke the news earlier today on her official Instagram account. The fitness guru posted her first public picture of her holding little baby Sterling. In the image, the baby can be seen tightly gripping the index finger of her dad, Patrick Mahomes.

A short while later, the Chiefs tight end, and close friend of Mahomes, took to Twitter to congratulate Matthews, or as he calls her “mom.”

“Congrats Mom!!! @brittanylynne8 Cant wait to meet Sterling!!” Kelce says excitedly.

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes Brothers On and Off the Field

Mahomes and Kelce have developed chemistry on and off the field over the course of the last three years. In fact, over the past three seasons including the playoffs, Mahomes and Kelce have connected on 33 touchdown passes. That’s by far the most for a quarterback and tight end duo during that span.

That number also puts them in the company of other greats from the past decade. Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski combined for 28 with the Patriots from 2015 through 2017. Meanwhile, Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham had 35 for the Saints from 2012 through 2014.

Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio has had to face the dynamic duo twice a year. He says the two of them have great chemistry together.

“They definitely have karma between them,” said Denver coach Vic Fangio, who watched Kelce catch 11 Mahomes passes for 142 yards in the snow against the Broncos last season. “They can ad-lib the routes, and both of them are on the same page when they’re doing that.

“He’s a really tough guy to cover. He’s got size. He’s got great route-running instincts, when to pivot and when not to pivot when to stay with the exact route. Obviously, Mahomes is very comfortable throwing it to him because he’s a big guy, and a lot of times he’s on a [defensive back] so he outsizes him, but yet he runs really good routes.”

The two superstars obviously remain close off the field as well.  They’ve been seen attending sporting events such as the Final Four together. And following their Super Bowl LIV victory parade the duo even showed up together at a Post Malone concert.

So it is only fitting that Travis Kelce was one of Mahomes’ first teammates to congratulate him publicly on the birth of his new daughter.
