It seems like everyone has taken to calling out Conor McGregor lately. Recently, it’s been Jake Paul trolling him, desperately asking for a fight.
Now, it’s Petr Yan lining up to use his fighting words against MMA’s most infamous fighter. Yan is the bantamweight champion. He earned the title in July 2020 by defeating Jose Aldo.
Petr Yan Reacts to McGregor Fight
Yan reacted to McGregor’s most recent fight. He went up against Dustin Poirier and was defeated by a second-round TKO. It was an unexpected loss for the Irish boxer who now has a 22-5-0 record.
Poirier had been using calf kicks to gradually weaken McGregor. Eventually, this incorporated with boxing was enough to take him down. It’s apparent that McGregor was not prepared for calf kicks during UFC 257.
The bantamweight champion responded to McGregor’s loss in an interview with Fanatic View’s James Lynch by saying, “Yeah, I saw that Conor became fat and old.”
On March 6 he will be defending his current title against Aljamain Sterling. The fight was originally scheduled for December but was pushed back due to an injury as well as personal reasons.
Regarding his upcoming match, he has said that he is now in full training for the fight. He said that “we have opposite styles” in reference to his and Sterling’s fighting styles. However, he is saying he’s preparing to match anything Sterling tries in the ring.
Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier Fight
While both McGregor and Yan continue to prepare for future fights, McGregor has also been busy with philanthropic endeavors.
While there was a lot of tension in the ring, it didn’t translate the same after the match-up. Poirier’s wife, Jolie, is heard yelling, “that’s the last time anyone doubts my husband” following his knockout of McGregor.
However, backstage Jolie approached McGregor to personally thank him for a $500,000 donation to her husband’s “Good Fight Foundation.” She said, “Thank you for everything – it’s going to help change a lot of lives,” according to MMA Fighting.
Despite bloodying each other up in the ring, both fighters and their families seem to have a lot of respect for one another. McGregor complimented Poirier’s calf kicks after the fight. Poirier also called McGregor a “professional” and a “pro.” He said they were 1-1 and may have to go again in the future.
The “Good Fight Foundation” was established to help local communities and underserved populations. Specifically, it goes to his hometown of Louisiana to help underserved communities with food insecurity and environmental disaster relief.
